1965 Right hand drive beetle pretty beat up motor is not installed no idea the shape of any of the mechanical parts Utah USA and im looking for a beetle to do the subaru ej22 swap seller says he wants $1000 for it ? worth it for RHD in U.S or to much ?
In my opinion amount of rust and/or previous accident repairs is the number 1 factor in deciding value.
Wouldn't you be better asking this question on the samba?
Is the car in Utah? If so why not buy a solid local car, will cost you the same (if not less), especially when you consider shipping expenses, duty,
and everything else, you could pick up something probably in better condition and for less money than importing (also US cars are notorious for bog,
so what you see isnt always what you get).
Also re ej22 swap, there's probably a bunch of other stuff you would need to look at first, steering, suspension, brakes before you even consider an
engine upgrade... I wouldnt be installing a powerful motor without getting the base right first.
You cant put the heart of a thoroughbred into a donkey and not expect it to trip over its own legs.
Just my two cents
Shipping will cost at least $4000
but he, is in Utah
i am in utah and i wont just be throwing the motor in and trying to drive i understand the process i have been building 4x4 for the last 10 years
and am looking to get into something different somehting that will go vroom but still get good gas mileage and still turn heads when its done and i
like the classic bug a lot i had a 72 super when i was 16 but i sold it not really thinking about it
the car is only about 10 miles away from me and 2 from my work im just wondering if $1000 is to much or if its worth it because its Right Hand Drive
and its local
Samba ? the only reason i asked on here is because i have been reading about ian's and joel's swaps and this forum seems less likely to rip my
head off for stupid questions
Your in Utah, the car's in Utah, and you are asking on an Australian forum if it's worth the $..........
Don, I think the least you could do is fly over there and check the car out for him. That's what AVD is all about.
nvm
if the rust repairs is less than the effort of converting a LHD then it is worth it as at least it is original
I would grab it if it is OK rust and body wise
why should i convert it to LHD ?
if i buy it i would be keeping it RHD
unless there is a reason i shouldn't ?
Kafie, it may be worth contacting Eric Jones [ericj@thelabelcompany.com]. Eric has a RHD early bug -'56, I think - in California.

At the end of the day we ae talking about a $1,000 car. If u buy it for 1k u can pretty much expect there will be rust in it, and it will need repairs (RHD or LHD in AUD or USD, we are still talking about a thousand dollar car). We are talking about a car nobody has actually inspected, no photos and no indication of condition. I dare say that if it is 1,000 it's probably worth $1,000, it can hardly be worth less.
Thanks Yogie - that is what I meant
i will work on pics its locked behind a fence but i will take pictures of what i can see
is there any reason i should not pick this year for the suby swap over other years ?
