Hi Everyone,
I am hoping some of the Sydney guys might weigh in on this one, I am trying to find a good place to hold a once a month VW catch up.
I have recently moved back to Sydney after living in Adelaide for the last seven years and my knowledge of Sydney is not what it used to be and there
have been a lot of changes while i was away.
While in Adelaide I started a night called "ParkPlatz" which is German for "Car Park", we would meet up the first Saturday of every month at a car
park in the centre of Adelaide. It had across the road a 24hr servo and subway and it was just an outside car park.
We would start arriving from 7pm and stay until the last people would call it quits (2am would not be uncommon). It is a great night and brought a lot
of VW people together and it is still running today.
So I am looking for suggestions for a sight here in Sydney, so we could try doing the same thing here that is if you guys are interested.
The sight ideally would be convenient for people from all over Sydney to attend, be well lit, be somewhere where you could get a bit to eat or a
coffee or snacks without having to drive away to get them, and of course be somewhere that can accommodate a group of VW's parking up together.
The whole idea for this event is to bring VW people out and meet up on a regular basis, All are welcome, it’s not a club event, it’s not governed
by politics, it’s just VW people enjoying VW's.
In Adelaide this night brought out people who had dropped of the club seen for whatever reason, it had new VW people mixing with old VW people, it
prompted a lot of new VW inspired help on projects between people who attended and it also started of a fair bit of car park boot sales of VW bit and
pieces between people who meet at these events.
It has become a really good little event in Adelaide, so i am hoping we might be able to do the same thing here in Sydney.
Any suggestions on sites and locations are welcome, I’ll have a drive around at anything suggested, once I can find a place that fits the bill, we
can set a start date and see what happens.
Anyway, I hope some of you think this might be a worthwhile thing to try and I hope to hear from some of you.
Cheers,
Finn
Hi
Good idea, its already happening. http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=102511
Hi Finn,
As Steve said, we are already doing the basic thing that you are talking of. At first we would try different car parks / food outlets to make it a
bit fairer for all that would attend.
Sometimes they would be close to your home and the next time you may have a 45 minute drive. With that said and as you would see in Steve's link, we
tried Hooter last night for the first time. Was only 7 of us there, but we we sat inside the whole time eating, drinking and looking at the sites
(wink, wink).
Personally, I still feel that the best place was at Liverpool. We have plenty of car park space and to eat you have a choice of Harry's Cafe,
McDonalds, Pizza, O'porto's and Crisppy Creams if you wanted a donnut or two. Other than going to buy food, we just hang around our cars and talk
car stuff or whatever.
Another great aspect of this location is that a lot of other car enthusiast also attend this location, so there are always lots of cars to see and
talk about.
Anyway, keep an eye out for the next meeting and hopefully you can join us. But we Sydney people must be wooses, as I think the latest we have stayed
is only about 11.30pm.
Here are a couple of photos from one of the meetings there.

How about Queen St Customs
Queen St Customs
Are you actually serious?
Going by the pictures the Liverpool site dose look good, but looking at a map Liverpool does not seem to be very central?
As for the Queen Street Customs, well, if a auto work shop of any kind wanted to keeps its doors open once a month for a get together, I am sure it
would be well supported.
I guess I have in my mind to try and emulate something like the killer nights at the famous "Nick's Burgers" in LA ( might be dreaming I know, but
you gotta have a go )
I would like to find one place that is convenient for as many as possible; base it at that location so over time it grows into an institution, so that
everybody over time knows in the back of the minds..... The first Saturday of the month is “that VW night at ......... “To me, that’s how
something grows.
It takes time and commitment from many but I am up for it and I hope other are too.
Let’s keep the ideas flowing, we will find something.

Finn,
you might have gathered by Mike's comment and Fish26 above, that Queens street was maybe suggested as a bit of a laugh with our cars. I don't think
99.9% of all our old VW's come anywhere near the standards (or brand) to feel welcomed at Queen St and not be laughed at. Not unless you have spent
over $100k on it
I like your idea about making one particular place (like in LA) and having it grow and if you have any thoughts or suggestions, please let us know. I
would love to be at a place where 50-100 VW's would turn up for a feed and chat. And I'm not thinking of just car shows for this to happen.
Cheers, Kev
Sounds like a really good idea, for me liverpool is closest but interested to see where it ends up at

the distance between revesby and liverpool is all of 15 minutes.
To me the hot dog stand suits the era of our cars. The entertainment is supplied free of charge, parking is great ( not that my bike takes up much room
). And you can mingle with all the vee dub owners there. Go to a Torque type place and you sit down and end up ignoring half of the owners there ( + I
have been sitting for hours to get there ).Now Paul , what will happen first. You come to a get to a meeting or I finish my beetle.
Oh, I didn’t think the Queen Street Customs was a real suggestion, but the idea of a VW styled auto shop opening its doors was what I was eluding too.

I think Liverpool is great, close to the M5 and M7, lots of parking and food nearby
A couple of nights that Adam and Mike put on at RAW were an awesome hit, if we can emulate that at Livo monthly with maybe a shop
visit/cruise.......WPVW, Westside, Vintage, Classic....etc every so often, would be an idea of getting this thing going.
Eg.
Every second Sat of the month Livo with alternating TBC day cruises to workshops and further trips to the country namely Bathurst to visit Gordy and
get me wheels
Not going to lie, the idea of having a more central meeting point is attractive to those of us that trek from the northern beaches! haha
Although i know you boys well enough to know i should just man-up and drive to liverpool, and as the token chick a lot of the time, i know i'm
fighting a losing battle there!
But i must admit, i think hooters is probably a little more enjoyable for you guys than for me haha :P
Logan; awesome to see you being so enthusiastic about meeting VW people, and welcome back to Sydney!
Sorry i missed the last one guys, I've been quite sick and then i buggered off north for a week or so. I did stop and chat to a few kombi owners in
Coffs while i've been here though, so i got my dub fix!
Volkswagens are always welcome @ Dino's Pizza, not so central but always welcome........
A couple if ideas at this stage.
Been looking around the silverwater area, guessing thats the middel for most ?
How about :
1. The reading Cinema complex on Great Western HWY & cnr Percy St in Auburn .... lots of parking , subway on site and cafe in cinemas....
macdonalds 200 meeters down the road.
or
2. McDonalds Parramatta rd & Dalhousie st in Ashfield. Not a lot of room for growth, if it grows into something.
these might not be perfect, but i will keep looking. i think a middel ground location for most, means for a few it will be really close, but for most
others it wont mean compeletly crossing Sydney to attend.
By the way and for the record, i am in Ryde, and i am not trying to make it close for myself. i dont mind a drive in my VW.
I would actually prefer a Saturday or sunday afternoon rather than a Friday night, i work in the city and i dont get home in time to go back out on a Friday night.

Kev I still think my beetle will be going before Paul turns up to a gathering . And yes fish26 the wheels are still here, and there is a back seat out of a 68 someone can have if they want it ( free). And if
someone wants to earn some cash helping me finish the wiring , let me know.
Does Harry's at Liverpool have a side show on Saturday arvo??
