when it looks too good to be true it probably is

What do you folks reckon.. ??? a scam :)

Thank you for inquiring about my 1959 Volkswagen Kombi. I canceled the advert due to the high number of inquiries. The car has been well taken care of, always kept in the garage and it has only 140,000 km. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no finance. It have all the papers and documents and it is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident.
The price is AU $8,300 including the shipping to your home address. The car is registered (and located) in Australia. I bought it when i was serving in RAAF Melville Island, NT but i was promoted and transferred to RAF United Kingdom for a 5 years period, therefore I need a fast and reliable buyer. The car is already at our Military Logistic Department from RAAF Melville Island, AU Army, crated and ready to go, I've arranged the shipping and the papers transfer anywhere in Australia and the delivery will take approx 1 to 3 working days (with 7 days return policy). The shipping will be free of charge for you because I will transport it using the internal logistic department.
The sale will be managed only through eBay since they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability during online transactions, and only after you will receive the car, I will receive the payment; this way we are both 100% protected.
To start the transaction I just need a firm decision if you want to buy this or not and your complete name and shipping address. After that you will receive an invoice from eBay Motors that will tell you all the details you need to know about our transaction and also will give you the choice to proceed or not with the deal.

Kind Regards,
Lt. Tayler Carraway

PS: Here is a photo album of the car:

I am presuming this IS NOT actually from our AVD member HEBFAN
and this has been taken from ebay??

ebay actually says "if it looks too good to be true it usually is.."
I can see why He is being bombarded with enquiries.. lol
Good One.. You can't see it until it arrives.. YIKES... LEE

100% BS. I saw that last night on carsaales.com, this being the second time I have seen same vehicle in about 6-12 months. The first time from memory the vehicle was in Vic and now they say it's NSW. The first time I saw it, I rang the phone number but it was disconnected. I reported it last night as being a scam.

Yes, if it is to good to be true, stay right away :lol::lol:

For a start you cant "transfer" rego within Australia at least not to different states, each state has its own system and you actually need to cancel and set up new rego if you move interstate, so that is sus to start with.

Second, the price......dead giveaway. Got to be a scam or he's been in cryogenic suspension since 1970 and is trying to rip us off!

Smells like a scam to me. Ebay offers no protection for purchases of cars, even if you do pay with paypal, no coverage is given to any vehicle related items except for parts etc. So conducting through them is no different to private sales.

Joel - September 2nd, 2013 at 02:55 PM

A 15 window like that surely someone on here must recognise it.

Not in NSW like the photos show it's not.
Another sign its probably a scam
That bus hasn't been registered for nearly 9 months
details stay current even with new plates

vwo60 - September 2nd, 2013 at 06:55 PM

He must have been lonely on Melville Island as the last RAAF base there was in WW2.

DubbyDo - September 2nd, 2013 at 07:00 PM

Bwaaaahhhhhaaaaahaaaa..... RAAF Melville Island NT sure sure, Norforce are there but there sure as shit ain't no airforce base there.
2ndly, 1-3 days shipping anywhere in Oz, How? C17 Globemaster? That's the only way they could get it down south in a day.
Maybe email him and tell him to f*#k off , get a job and earn his money like everybody else.

After you pay, he'll drive your Carraway.

clearly a scam but I was surprised when I read about one of these in the uk and quite a few had paid the deposit for the same van and were not likely to get monies or a van anytime soon. this is so far away from the norm that it has to be a scam

Sides - September 2nd, 2013 at 11:24 PM

Heh heh, love it... do people really get drawn in by this stuff ???

- Far as I know there's no RAAF'ies on Melville.
- No such thing as a Lt in the RAAF (that's an Army rank... and even that's LT, and no way would an LT sign himself Lt)
- Army don't ship stuff around for RAAF, especially in planes (well JMCO might... but def not Army, cos it's RAAF that has the planes !!!)
- Military people just don't write like that - stuff is "properly maintained", but never "meticulously" etc.

Excellent answers Dave..
I didn't know any of that stuff.. lol
I should have known that there wasn't an RAAF base on Melville Island.. and OK on the Lt..
I didn't notice that one as My initials are LTN and My signature is LtN

I think people just see the low price and ........ think its a bargain..
which it would have been.. lol

cheers

MISS VDUB - September 3rd, 2013 at 07:57 AM

Fact: They did not cancel the ad, it was deleted when i reported it on Carsales as this is in fact the bus of someone whom i know and these scumbags have used the photo's from the original sales ad well over a year ago! They are trying this on ebay, carpoint, carsales etc...

This happens all too regularly with old advertisements from Carsales and eBay. Another friend had the exact same thing happen with her bus, photos and all.

I received an email reply to the message i sent them reporting the ad

Dear Ashleigh,

Thank you for contacting the Carsales Network.

Scam. You don't speak like that in the military . Especially as a commissioned officer, it runs off on your ever day life......

And it will be logistic support.

To many errors.

Watto.

P.S. google some key words and its also on a 4x4 website

BiX - September 4th, 2013 at 12:41 PM

I had fun with one of these scams a little while ago. There was a Jag XK120 advertised for $12,000 in northern aceh (indonesia), expats old car blah blah. Bargin of the century if it was true. Emailed him and talked to him for a week or so sounding very interested. He kept asking for a deposit, so when I was in Banda Aceh 2 weeks later, rang him and said I am here, with the money, and can we meet, I will drive it away........ the phone went silent very very quickly :)
