That's very interesting! I would have thought that this would be still much too expensive for most applications, although you never know. Heat would definitely be produced, but I guess if the lasers are intense enough, then heat soak to the panel will be reduced because you don't need to apply heat to the surface for very long. At the end of the day it's only 1000 watts, your average hand-held hot air gun is 2400 watts and over a certain length of time they're not applying the heat over that much more area really.

Wonder how much the machine costs? Obviously the places offering it are going to use the costs to justify fairly hefty rates per hour to use it.

Maybe you'll eventually be able to buy a DIY setup.

If you look on the laser clean all website they one shown appears o be the back pack model.
Looks very ghost busters and probably not cheap.
Would make stripping a car much less labor intensive though.

Just looked into this and they are used on airplane surfaces. I would expect that any distortion on these would be bad. They do talk about restoration of steel doesn't look bad at all.

Yes, a 1000W laser is insanely powerful, but I'm sure it would have some sort of range-finding safety device on it so that it only fires if you're holding it close to a surface.

Actually sent an email to the American distributer who than passed it onto the South African distributors. Bloody expensive. Around $80,000 for a smaller portable model so the larger 1000 watt models would cost even more.
As far as distortion etc, basically after a long email I can say that it will only develop enough heat if held in same sport for a period of time. So basically the operator needs to move it constantly.
Would definitely love one of these but are currently not available in Australia just yet, unlees you want to pay postage from South Africa. They are hoping to have a distributor in Perth by early 2014.
