I did read this a while back but was listening to the BBC world service a few minutes ago in My car when they had a little discussion about the VW
Kombi
because today is the last day of manufacture of the Kombi in Brasil
they probably had no idea of which model Kombi ...
but naturally had seen lots of them about.. over the years..
I believe it was the bay window Kombi that was still being made in Brasil..
[and sold in the UK....]

It's only the last day for the Brazilian 'T2c' Kombi. That is, the water-cooled Brazilian version of the T2 that they have been making since the
1990s.
This story has been very poorly explained by the normal media. There was a segment on the Channel 9 (WIN) news on Monday night - explaining about the
'end of the Kombi' while showing footage of a cruise of split window Kombis in the USA (!) The average mug would assume it was the end of the split
window - which was 1967 in Germany, 1968 in Australia and 1975 in Brazil. Not a single shot of the actual model ending.
Of course Volkswagen still makes the Kombi. and always will. Nowadays it's the T5 version that you can see any time you visit your local Volkswagen
dealer.
Here's the website for the Brazilian VW T2c that is ending:

Hi Phil
That was the one they were selling in the UK.. usually as a camper in LHD or RHD.. Radiator grill was ugly..
The UK ones usually had a chromed wheel cover over the radiator grill
the cover had vents in it, plus I presume there was a gap between the cover and the radiator or some modifications under the front...
cheers

The media seem to have the knack of getting anything with old VWs wrong...
They seem to put up pics of any model to go with any story...
Maybe they really think that they were ALL the same...
