My little 2 yr old was in a bit of a state this morning (he IS 2 after all!), so to settle him down I picked him up and wandered out to the front yard
to let him help me water the roses a bit with a watering can.
On our way down the side of the house we went past the El Bug I've been collecting parts for now for a year. He looks a bit forlorn and un-cared for,
but I just about have the carport/workshop ready and waiting to start the rebuild.
A 2 yr old view from behind.......
Neither the little bloke nor my 5 yr old can even walk past the El Bug without reaching out to touch "Wer-Wer" (ahem, 2 yr old speak for
Volkswagen!) It's amazing the effect these stoooopid little cars have on adults, but on little tackers the effect is really something to watch!
A 2 yr old view of the front "smiley face".......
The little bloke has to wait until I've moved the car into the workshop to play in it again. At the moment it's also a bit of a storage area
inside.......
I've got to change the clutch cover gasket on the big bike, but then both the commuter and the hotrod get moved out and this 7m x 6m area is good to
go for the "Wer-Wer" building program!
All my kids have grown up with ACVWs, they have literally "dak-dak'd" there way into adulthood in one way or another, as I did also while growing
up with Opa's Kombi, Nanna's KG and an uncle's hotrod street racer. It's hard to describe the effect of these things on kids.
I still remember counting the "Herbie's" on the way down the hills to Perth to the Drive-in as a boy to watch it on the big screen. Over the 60km
trip, we counted 84 Beetles!
What stories have people to tell about the little kids seeing them and their reactions?
That is just GREAT Daimo.
Hehehehe, I remember my kids doing that too!
I dropped my then-15 yr old daughter off to school one morning in the Blue Baja (in avatar), and I had to give her friend a lift as well of course.
This young girl couldn't stop talking about how fast her uncles V8 whatever was, and it got to the stage where my daughter got the shits, so asked me
to "shut her up" (Hahaha! darling little thing!).
One clutch dump off the lights and a quick run through 1st and 2nd and she shut up! Still had jelly legs when we got to school 5 mins later.
Hi
Great story modrod and great video Damo.
This is a photo of my son playing cars in about 1993, he's 6'7" now but still loves his Beetle and his other cars
Steve
my son loves "Daddy's Car"
holy sheet Steve, I Almost didn't recognise you
Good times, Rick....enjoy them.
My 2 boys, building their first car........in 1972.
They eventually got the hang of it...40 years on.
I had a photo of my now 22 yr old daughter sitting in young Mr Penrose's drag Beetle at Canberra Drags in the early '90s, wish I could find it
now.
We were having a great chat until this little 3 yr old figured out how to turn the electrics and fuel pumps on..........
Daimo that is awesome! i have a nearly 3 year old and she has yet to expeirience the sound and fun of a high hp beetle but she loves crusing around the farm in my 68 semi auto hanging onto the jesus bar singing FUN BOLKSWAGEN DADDY! She maybe a new convert!
My son at 3 driving his first Beetle.........
It looked a bit better after he'd restored it.......
My grandson has always been a fan of driving Grandad's car
But if Grandad's car isn't there, he will settle for Grandma's car
here is another one i found, he has grown up so much since then..
he "helped" dad give the engine a once over this afternoon in the garage
In 2012 we entered the McLaren vale classic and found ourselves in the street parade with over 400 other classic cars.
A truly excellent experience.
The highlight of the day was watching the multitude of bored (are we there yet?) kits faces light up seeing the highly recognizable VW's.
The bright red beetle we were driving seemed to invoke the greatest response in the youngest.
It was most gratifying watching all these little faces light up and watch them going "look dad! and pointing.
It never got old.
There is no doubt that the old VW's have an effect on the youngun's that no other cars do.
My girl was three when I finally put MY68VW on the road. She's now 10 and regularly reminds me how she helped built it.
She calls him "little car". She often squealed with joy while riding in the back. And watched until out of sight if we left without her.
Recently when the cat came off our Territory she remarked how it was almost as loud as little car and THAT SHE LOVED LOUD CARS!
Whenever I visit WPVW she insists on taking photo's.
Her favorite car there.
Old phone photo.
When camping she insists on sleeping in little car.
What she used to want when she grew up (it's now a bumblebee Camaro)
Every time my 2yr old sees the race car he is 'car!!!! Car!!!' It's very cool.
YAY!!! The little car is FINALLY in the workshop. I came home with the car in August........2012. So for us, this is a BIG deal.
Obligatory photo of the driver while my wife and I pushed the thing around to move it in. He's pretty damn pleased with himself, he insists that this
is the first time he's ever driven a car (apparently we don't count steering the Hilux on the farm to miss "most" of the fences! )
After all the excitement, what else is there really than to make sure everything still works OK after the big move.........
