Is it just me or have a few of you been told this one,
I ordered a set of 40 IDF Webers in a complete kit ie all linkages, air cleaners etc which were advertised by a well known VW parts supplier, who
assured me that they were real Webers made in Spain stamped on the bases etc.
The carbs arrived in boxes unmarked except for a part number and the carbs had no markings of identification in other words clean skins, not
happy,,,,,,,
Contacted the supplier who assures me that all new Weber carbs being supplied now don't have the brand Weber on them at all.
I may be wrong but why would Weber go to the trouble of altering there casting moulds to remove there brand name.
So people who has been told this and is it fact or fiction.
To say the least I am not happy.
Let's here some feed back on this please.

I've bought/fitted about 6 Weber kits in the last 12 months and they all had Weber on them. I prefer the real thing, every knock-off I've had anything to do with has had problems of some sort.
if it don't say its a duck - it aint a duck
I bought Chinese 40 idf off of ebay with manifold and linkages.. (I will now refer to Chinese IDF as chIDF.)
I didn't have any problem with them until I machined the vents.
I couldn't find the 28mm vents to put back on so I've been running on 32mm from genuine 36idf
anyway Today, I just grabbed myself a pair of 44 hpmx.
No marking, just like chIDF.
bottom line: I don't know about other guys and their experience with chIDF.
they work for me (until i messed the vents up).
also from their own testing, HPMX auppoedly made more power than genuine weber idf.
in my personal opinion. I think that these IDF "knock off" are reasonable for their price.

I find it hard to see how the Chebers (Chin-Lee Webers) can be 'reasonable for the cost' when there is a high risk of them being no good, or worse,
create damage to your expensive engine. Carbs are an extremely sensative device with an even more extremely important job. You save a few hundred
dollars on the initial purchase, but thats where the savings stop. Often they take longer to assemble due to inferior quality (overall and in many
smaller parts and details, and even the little things are important to the longevety and stable operation of a carburettor) so the 'saving' is short
lived. Then IF you start having tuning issues thier cheap cost is out the window pretty damn quickly when your paying for a professional specialist.
I've seen them with cracked bodies that leak fuel into the engine and out of the carb. I've had needle/seats leak fuel into a brand new engine that
caused a hydrolic lock up on the first night that they were fitted, the supplier said he hadn't seen that problem ever before and that I'd set the
float level wrong......even if I did, the needle valve still should stop the fuel flow. No argument.
Go OG Weber for me, any time. Even if they don't float.....
Heres the obvious answer
You get what you pay for, but in the OP case it seams he didn't, if it doesn't have have a name on it, you don't know what you have bought.
I personally prefer Dells, yes they stopped making them years ago but you can still get parts and you know what you have!
Ok what happens next is very strange.
I day after I complained about the carbs I get a phone call from the supplier with a statement along these lines ( boy have I got a deal for you ) I
ask what is the deal and he says he has found 2 carbs with the Weber brand and he could send them to me once I send the others back to him ( postage
at my expense ) so this is my only mistake other than dealing with him in the first place, I express posted them to his address which is on his
business card in the package delivered to me with the carbs.
MY mistake was not to have item to be signed for on delivery.
So I wait for confirmation that the real Webers are on there way but no what I get is they have not arrived at his address, I enquire with Aust Post
several times over the next 3 weeks back and forward.
They check there manifest for deliveries and confirm the item was delivered at a time and date and left in a safe place out of site.
So now I am without the carbs and he denies that they were returned to him.
shit I am just on a no win situation here.
More to come this has been going on since October
Was this caused by the fact that when I ordered the Weber Kit I ASKED him 4 times to confirm these were real Webers, his rely ( I don't sell any shit
)
Bugger.
Please disregard my flippant statement above, oops!
If you want genuine, and pay for them, that's what you should get.
I wonder who this could be?
Can you tell us what country this 'supplier' is in ?

It is always recommended to return anything as registered signed for delivery. At least that way you are covered. That's why companies like PayPal
insists on signed delivery, it's the only way to cover yourself.
You could try contacting fair trading and make a complaint but you are in a bit of a pickle with no proof of shipping.
If you paid by credit card you could go through them and have the transaction reversed pending investigation. Most banks cover fraud or non arrival of
goods.
So the tale goes on,
Another strange thing was that he asked me what address I sent the carbs to and I replied the address on your business card OH he says that's not the
right address and haven't been for years, I say what!! It's on your cards oh is it what the!! He's says Aust Post doesn't recognise that address
is it could of been delivered anywhere.
I say what is the address on your cards as well as your web site then reply oh I must change that ( bull shit )
So now I am offered the real Webers if I pay him another $500 !!! Very kind as that's what I wanted in the first place.
I then ask him has he had anything to do with carbs called Decades and he replies yes ( Decades is a brand that is a copy of the Weber ) I had
investigated and a few of them on a few motors sold in this area.
Funny that he sells Decades but no mention of them on the web site Only Webers.
Time for a rest I am getting more pissed off !!!!!
Will continue later.
Sounds like a visit to fair trading or whatever QLD's equivalent is in order !
So it's not just me then as indicated by the number of PM's I have received.
Please be advised that in no way would I put any of the forums or the people on the forums in any situation where legal eagles could get involved, that
was never my intention.
Also I would add that I have delt with a lot of suppliers of parts over the years and this problem has not been caused by any suppliers in Brisbane or
Queensland, I have nothing but praise for there help and supply of parts.
I have made a lot of friends on all forums and the VW people don't want or deserve to deal with shonky fast talkers with shit service.
So I will leave it at that.
I have a lost out this time but the Kombi Karma will pay a visit at some point.
Thanks for your replies and PM's
