Hi folks, this really sucks having to post this but as with many others across Australia, current times are tough.
We bought ourselves a 76 camper (standard 2 litre) about a year and a half ago and got it up and running only to find the solex carbs were crapped
out. My parents were so very kind enough to buy my wife and I twin Dellortos from Gabrielle in Italy for our Christmas present....TOTALLY stoked and
appreciative. Thing is jobs are dwindling and hours are shrinking so looks like the camper may have to go. We cannot let the carbs go with it as they
were a present....and well it's just not the done thing. Can anyone help locate or suggest affordable replacements, either aftermarket or original?
Second hand would be the only way as new is out of our range . We are in Tassie and can't find anything. We are looking for a bolt on and
run set up....I tried the rebuild thing and just didn't happen for me. Any help would be much appreciated. NOT looking for a hand out but we are on a
budget. If there is something out there, but slightly out of our reach but worth it...I may be able to get some more coin together, but it may take a
couple of weeks.
Sorry to put this out there but we would be very appreciative of any leads /info and help.

Ps My Father (now retired) made it his project to research ,find and get us these Dellortos and fittings....he was so proud of himself for his level
of help. No I will not sell them....some things just mean more than $$$$. They will be kept to go into a splitty that another really generous friend
of mine gave to me, basket case or not,.....it also will never be sold.
Sell it with the carbs, if you must sell it. You can't keep all presents for ever, sometimes they have to be let go, or passed on.
If you change carbs and it doesn't run well, it may not sell as easily too.
If I had a set, they would be yours. Not being all that generous really, I hate the things!

Do you still have all the original Solex carbs, linkage and all the air cleaner parts? You must have all the bits, otherwise the system doesn't work
properly. While they are twin carbs, they don't work like twin Dellortos where each carb is independent. The stock VW/Solex system is more like a
single carb split into two - they are not symmetric. The left-hand carb controls the right-hand carb and there is a triple idle control system. It's
not difficult to get running, but all the carb and air cleaner parts must be there.
As for the stock carbs themselves, not much goes wrong with them. They usually wear out the spindles, which means slop as the throttles open. These
can be removed and rebushed. Sometimes the electric chokes or electric cutoff valves fail, but usually it's because the wires to them get old and
break, not the elements themselves. Otherwise, about the only thing that can go wrong is that they clag up with residue if they sit for ages. That is
easily fixed by taking them apart and cleaning them properly. Leave the Kombi stock if possible. If your carbs are broken or too worn out to rebuild
properly, contact Vintage VeeDub in Sydney and Boris will send you down a replacement second-hand set. (02) 9789 1777
If you are short of cash, sell the Dellortos to someone on this forum or in the Tasmanian VW Club. Then use the money to have the stock carbs
cleaned, repaired, installed and adjusted by a reputable VW shop or carburettor service shop. Use the Yellow Pages or ask the guys in the Tasmanian VW
Club.

Well thanks for the input. I am going to have a search through my parts pile to make sure I still have everything....If I do I will refit and give them another try. I did rebuild them but I must admit I didn't look into the electric fuel cut off valves. They chokes didn't seem to work either from memory....I didn't look much further as I was given the Dellortos to fit. If I have everything I will refit and try and trouble shoot. Fingers crossed.
Also make sure with stock carbs that all mating surfaces are flat as they tend to bow a little over time , dismantle carbs and using wet n dry on a
dead flat surface ( glass or other) and sand gently till all surfaces are clean with no low spots as gaskets can't take up all gaps .
Stock carbs are fine if tuned and everything works as it should
All good advice above, they must be in a complete stock system is the important thing to note.
Another thing re solinoid fuel cut off valves. These are just an idle jet therefore the smallest hole in the carb, if dirt is going to block anything,
it's usually the idle jet. The only way to clean these is to power them up with 12 volts THEN blow them out with compressed air.
