16" wheels for a 1952 Beetle
andim1 - July 1st, 2014 at 01:40 PM

Hi guys, I have recently won the jackpot and secured a German barn find 1952 crotch cooler, numbers matching Beetle! I will be flying over to Germany in September to collect it and have it stuffed into a container bound for Aus. I have had to sell a car to finance the trip and will be on a budget. I have noticed the car has it's 16" spare tyre but a set of 4x 15" wheels all round. I have been told it may be easier to purchase a set if 16ns in Europe and put them in the container but just thought i would put the feelers out here... So does anyone have or are aware of any 16" wheels for sale in Australia? they do not have to be stamped "52", Any Beetle rims would be fine.... Thanks for any help you can give me, Cheers Andrew.

No Beetles were sold in Australia until early 1954, so none were sold here with 16" wheels. You won't find any in your local VW wreckers.

The only ones that may be here will have been privately imported at some stage. Very unlikely indeed.

As Ian says, you'll have to source a set from Europe or the US.

......or you can fit 16" rims from a barndoor bus, which are available in Oz.
