$500 for a junker
$5,000 for a fresh rebuilt one

Bottom end is the important part.
If it has end play in excess of say 1/4 mm or 10 thou then it is lucky to be $500

A good compression and 4 thou end play. Them its worth $1500 but doubt VW people will pay that.

My opinion. If I could drive it, and it had an even compression test on all cylinders, pulled smoothly and ran nice. I would go up to $1000, maybe $1500 if it had recent receipts for quality new heads.

If it was out of the car, not running, no recent history, I would go elsewhere.
