Shit service parts and quality
Pacific-Dubber - December 4th, 2014 at 07:50 PM

VERY dissappointed in some Australian suppliers.

Shall I name & shame?

Well all I will say two important parts I wouldn't put in a chook pen. Postage is either unheard of or unFUPPENreal.

Beginning to think that VW Beetle restoration is a friggen joke.

I have NEVER EVER had such a shit service or parts.

Yep I am pissed off BIG TIME. Wasted hundreds of dollars.

Postage of $11 for an item that costs me $2 to send is bull$hit too.

SO LETS FIX IT> LIFT YOUR GAME SUPPLIERS OR I WILL NAME & SHAME.

If Reputation is important then it needs to be said that inferior parts just dont cut it. Imagine how I feel, I bought parts over a year ago ready to install.

Last night I get some out, and they dont fit. So now I'll have to buy them over again if I can get them. Apology to all those who DO get the right parts, but if you're a supplier, it might be worth your while to check with the person that they really want a unique KOMBI part for a Beetle!?!?!?

I am very gunshy of Chinese parts now. I am feeleing like a slave worker in WWII Germany. Not happy.

Yep, it's where you have been going.
I've been in the industry selling parts and repairing air cooled VW's since the mid eighties.....the availability of new parts is better than ever BUT the availability of QUALITY parts has never been more difficult.

Use a supplier that has the best reputation and that uses the parts themselves also.

Also check for warranty, no use buying a $10k engine only to find out later you don't even get a warranty.....

I am with Matt, having been repairing these little cars since the late 60's. There are a lot of suppliers out there with good quality parts that I have used,Tooley Imports,Mick Motors,Vintage,Peter Richards just to name a few. I can never understand why people buy parts from some of the "specialists" out there cheap and then complain about the quality or the fact that came from China,do your homework and ask or purchase from someone like Matt or Boris. unfortunately you do not always get what you think you are buying,I was caught a couple of times but returned the parts and didn't purchase from that supplier again.
End of rant.

All good advice Grumble & Matt,

Trouble is that this is the first VW I have done. Probably #27 in the line of restorations, so as I am a bit ignorant of what's good & what's not, I have taken people on their word that some thing is good or fits. Sadly its very difficult to drag a car to the suppliers to test a part for fitting, and I am two-three hours from the majority of suppliers in Sydney.

I have no idea sometimes what's right or wrong as VW never made an IPB - that makes buying the right part very hazardous. So that makes it very challenging for an 'outsider' so to speak. Ironically I do have a West Coast Metric parts book. Its a GEM. I probably would not have done a beetle without it.

It frustrates me no end getting parts that dont fit as I am sure we've all experienced. Its just the volume of it that is a little annoying.

Cheers,
Ian

For the life of me I can't understand anybody tooling up to manufacture parts that don't fit?

On top of that to keep on producing said items despite all the negative feedback?

Then we have the suppliers that spend a fortune on a good web site but never offer anything but terrible service and have the phone off the hook.

Frustrating is not the word.
