VAT tax - UK
sander288 - December 11th, 2014 at 11:02 AM

I realise this is like our GST and isn't applied to us when we buy from the UK or EU but if a business isn't registered for VAT in Britain do we have to pay it?

Received a quote for parts from a reputable supplier and he says his prices are inclusive of VAT as he isn't registered and has quoted me including VAT even though i'm in Australia, makes a big difference if 19% gets knocked off the price, especially with exchange rate!

Any poms out there can you help?

Cheers
Shaun

As you reside outside the Eu then you technically don't have to pay VAT its totally down to the sellers discretion..

i would question there decision and try to get them to drop it..

VAT isn't there money its the governments no different to GST so has no affect on them and isn't making them anymore by charging it to you..

steff

Just this morning I received a list of prices from a UK company for parts I was interested in, it specifically shows NO TAX.

In Australia, you have to be registered to eliminate the GST so I imagine the UK would be the same. If he is not registered, then he is not registered.
