Have put a deposit on a mate for Bel and will pick him up later in the week.
He's a 1970 imported Type 3 Squareback. I know it's been suggested to go for '60 but I actually like this one. Bel's my old
car.
On original plates but 3rd owner. Paints not shiny but is his original fawn/tan colour (different but nice). Can't see any sign of major rust or
any rust at all. One small dent in drivers door. All knobs and bits seem there except someone has badged it.
Now has tan high back seats in the front in great condition. Back seat and trims are black, in good shape. Headlining not bad, just stained. Has a VW
sports steering wheel that the second owner put in, but kinda suits him.
The engine looks clean and he has all the paper work from jobs done on it. Starts straight away and drives well.
I've looked at a couple already and this one seems the one, it has good vibes and seems to have been looked after.
Now Bel has someone to share the load of getting me around with. :thumb
Will also be able to get my mum in and out of this car
I'll take a pic when I get him home.
Sorry about the non technical desciption. I'll give a better one when he's been to the mechanic for his RWC.
No sign of oil anywhere, plenty of oil when I checked, went through gears well, handled well. Brakes might need attention from what I could feel. No
or minimal rust (looked everywhere -roof, door pillars, doors, floor pan under carpet, around windows etc)
Don't know if I've done the right thing having two cars but at the moment it makes sense. I'll see how it goes
Cheers
Jen
Woo Hooo!
Congratulations!
I'm sure Bel will like having a friend
Jay
She will I'm sure
He is definitely a he so I have to give him a he name
I think they will make a hansome couple in the driveway:thumb
How about Bill? Bill and Bel is kinda catchy
That's real cute, I was thinking of that
He's sort of a cool car, a bit hip, Bill might be too sedate that's the only problem
He's going to make Bel's little head spin
He can be laid back cool though so Bill might still work
how about spud?

But the colour on the page looks a little light, maybe poor reproduction?

I think there are colours used for Australian type 3's that are not on the list you pointed to.
My 1970 notch has been repainted in its original 'Antarctica White'. There is still the a label from BALM (or is it Dulux?) with this
information.
Anyway, you will enjoy the new vehicle, it is quite different to a bug - almost a motor car (ducks for cover).
Well i'm stoked ! A nice VW couldnt go to a nicer home.
Hey Adz
Don't know what they call Bel's colour it is not one used by VW and she was painted before we got her
It is a great blue though. Have been told you can see her coming, or on one cruise they were able to keep track of where I was at the end of the line,
lol
She was originally white with red upholstery (can see the red under the black on the back seat)
I don't think I could ever change her colour now even when/if I get to restore her. She's Bel the Blue Beetle or Blue Bel, this can't
be changed or not by me anyway.
The t3 sqback is an unusual colour I hope someone can pick it when I post a pic or when it's his turn to cruise
He is different to drive than Bel and has so many more knobs. Wow, and isn't the engine so different (both excellent)
Don't know what I did to the earlier post half of it is missing, oops
Savanna beige is near the colour (on the link) and Spud could suit 'cos he's almost the colour of a spud
One more sleep
Cheers

Jen,
yep, I love Bel's color when I'm in the lead. It makes it so easy to determine if I need to pull back on the cruise control!
But now you have a type 3, I'll crank 'er up to 85 km/h. :-) I've been to 85 km/h in my fasty. Scary!
If you're after a good type 3 site, try:
http://www.vwtype3.org
They have a complete instruction manual for a 68 or something there so you can learn what all the buttons and knobs do. I only just realised two weeks
ago that I had high beams.
Andrew
Yep we will be able to up the pace on a long all weekender
Bel's still going to do cruises, outer Melb or a little further is the weathers fine and the run easy
Been to that site, it's a good one.
Have to start collecting Type 3 manuals now (oh my goodness!)
Cheers
Jen
