A question for all 1959 beetle has rego just picked up but no seat belts what the law do I have to fit them or not
No seat belts required.
If a vehicle was produced with out seat belts then you don't have to fit them
But it would be advisable to fit some in todays traffic and roads

Thanks I c when I take it in for rego check pink slip abd I will let you all know
Just tell whoever does the check that that model wasn't produced with seatbelts.
Seat belts weren't mandatory to production vehicles in Australia until '63 and even then it was only the mounting point that manufacturers had to
include from there recommendations and requirements changed each year.
After some quick googling it seems that all occupants of a moving vehicle must wear seat belts (excluding buses and some slow vehicles) although I
have been questioned by the police as to why my rear passengers were unrestrained and they accepted that my '68 VW never had rear seatbelts fitted,
they said; "your car meets its requirement" and no further question was asked.
It is my understanding that it depends when the car received its blue slip (NSW) and how the car was set up when the blue slip was issued.
eg: I'm about to blue slip my '68 and have reinstalled the back seat so it can be registered as a 5 seater - otherwise it would be registered as a 2
seater (i'm not installing rear seat belts only so it doesn't become a requirement - but I do have rear seat belts that are easily fitted). After
rego I'll remove the back seat so the sub, camping gear and surfboard/snowboard gear fit nicely.
Seat belts save lives.
Hellbugged, perfectly said.
An acquaintance has an accident in his 1958 vehicle recently, and it was not horrendous, however because there were no seatbelts in the front, his
wife had a nasty face plant with teeth and face injuries on the dash. He was ok, because he had his hands on the steering wheel to hold him back.
In my personal opinion, I would fit seatbelts to every seat position in any car I own.
