looking for an old style umber plate
aussiebug - September 23rd, 2015 at 10:17 PM

I know a guy in the UK with a 58 Aussie bug - very nicely looked after from the pics.

He would like to display an old Aussie number plate on the car if he can find one. He's not sure which state the car came from, so any state or territory plate would do so long as it's from about the right era.

He's sick of seeing USA plates displayed on old bugs in the UK (and completely wrong since they come from a LHD country too) and wants something a bit more "original" than that.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Mate, I thought somebody would have one to show before now, there are a few on EEKbay at the moment you could look at. On the other hand, when we were living in SA years ago I was surprised how many old cars in wrecking yards still had their plates attached! This yard on South Rd Edwardstown had them stacked 3 high with plates still on.
Good luck with the search. Rob.
