Here are a small collection of photos I recently scanned. This one is of my dads oval in original condition. It really was a terrific car.
That was until I got my young hands on it, then it ended up looking like this:
and this:
And after I pranged it, dad spent most of his spare time in this position:
That is my '76 golf in the background. It had a head on it with oversize inlet valves and went like the proverbial rocket. My brother did all of
the work on it, he was one of Mark Pell's workers.

Here is mum and dads original bay window camper which was bought by my older brother, next to mum and dads water cooled camper.
They should have never sold it, they've been through about half a doz cars since.
cool, when are they from?
Mostly from around the mid to late '80s. Got some photos of the first VW Spectacular at Raleigh when it was a dirt track.
Finally worked out how to use the scanner, so watch out!
What did you do to that poor OVAL!!!!:o
thats exactly what i was thinking... where did the love go? :P
Well, ...........
I was young and an inexperienced driver. Me and some mates in 2 other cars were heading home from a day spent jumping into the Nambucca River, up
where it's fresh water, and went round a right hand bend a little too fast for a car with a flat left tyre.
Arms went flying out of the windows, my mate found his glasses over behind the rear seat. How we didn't get hurt I don't know (actually its
got to do with the strength in the B pillars).
And now I'm 'restoring' (modernising) it for my kids to have when I'm finished with it (on an IRS pan of course!).
Whoops,
Intertesting read Astro. Thankyou for sharing.
I was the same when I was a kid but I took my inexperience out on a 'HR' Holden. Bought it for $100 and being a moto-X rider for the
previous 5 years it only lasted two weeks under my guidance. The 20kg's of bog in the back left panel kept making it land funny.
Anyhow I went back to bikes.
Keep us updated on the Ovals revival.
Cheers,
The Bronze.
Well Bronze .... today, rear wheel guards off, engine out, camber compensator off and for sale (will list everything for sale when its nearing
completion).
More to follow in the members rides section.
Nice to see an oval with a family history. I like the flash down the side of the oval on the old pic.
My Grandmother was an oval fan. She had a 54 & 55 from new then went on to Kombis at my Grandfathers insistance. But she loved the ovals the best.
She once told me that she could beat a Mk 2 Jag on an unmade road to anywhere back in a 50's beetle.
I'll try an find some old B&W photos of her old cars and drop them on the site. :thumb
oooh can i have firsts on the camber compensator
