hi all

im having somewhat a hard time weighing up the pros and cons of a rather long drive. I have to get myself and one other person (and another car with 3 ppl) to the shepparton area at the end of november in about 2-3 days (preferably 2) and back.

last year whichever route was easiest we would have taken because we had a big bricky volvo to travel in, but alas this is not the case this year, and cherry the beetle is going to have to make the trip down (not that i have a problem with that! )

ive measured out the major routes to shepparton, and decided its either the newell hway all the way, or new england-hume-newell route. Ive driven all these routes before, but as i said, that was in the days of the big yellow brick transport.

taking the new england route is about 250kms more than the newell straight (which equates to about a 1 extra tank for my beetle). Last time i drove the newell our volvo almost got hit by a semi...:cussing and lots of roos
i love driving the new england and have done it many times so im a bit biased there.

so im asking all you dubbers out there, because no doubt many of you will have done the drive or something similar in your dub, which way would be the best way to go?
taking into account trucks, wildlife, petrol prices and the actual road itself... lots to think about! :cry

come to think of it, its times like these i wish the volvo was working

Starbuggy, I don't know anything about the roads but have you considered just taking a deep breath and sitting down with a nice hot cuppa and the Train timetable?

shani, ive tried the tea and train and plane options, but im the only one working, which means im the only one that can afford the pricey tickets (about $200 each way per person for the train, and similarly for air unless you can score yourself a cheap flight) Then theres the cost of getting to the event with all our stuff/supplies, which probably means a 3 day car hire. The tea seems to work, but alas for the finances!
