Hi all,
This might sound kinda stupid...
I'm having problem shifting from 3rd to 2nd. It seems like a lot of the times I'll go from 3rd to 4th when I want to down shift to 2nd, although I
always push to stick to neutral then to the far left before pushing down to 2nd.
Shifting from 1st to 2nd is all sweet, no problem at all.
Just wondering if anyone had similar experience? Is it just a matter of correcting my shifting pattern? A mate of mine who owns mk4 golf doesn't have
the same problem when driving my car.
So I know it's most likely the way I shift, just not sure how I can correct it that's all!!!! :cry
Any suggestions will be appreciated!

ronster, i used to have that 3rd-2nd problem... i still do sometimes! just make sure your shifter is at a comfortable position for you and change your
shifting method. (i used to grip and push, now i just use my open palm/bent fingers)
it could just be your shifter is just not the one for you!
shortens the shifting pattern it will solve all your probs ( I THINK )
.......jace
Hmm... ok
I have a stock shifter...
And because my legs are short (I'm 5"7
), I have to move my
seat quite close to the front to make sure I can push the clutch all the way down... That could be a problem as well?
Jace: What does it mean to 'shorten the shifting pattern'??
Thanks!
Ron
you can get short shifter blocks or shifters themselves they both reduce the amount of play you have in your gearstick and shorten the H pattern up a
little my pref is the scat dragfast shifter , they look good and feel good have a look at the link i've given.

Hi all,
Another update on this problem I USED TO have.
I had this problem from the day I bought my car...
I learnt to live with it, I just had to push the shifter hard to the left coming from 3rd and yank it down(and I mean YANK!) into 2nd....
Getting used to driving like that for the next 6 months or so...
For some reason, over last weekend, I was having problem shifting from 3rd to 2nd again and I was even having problem finding 1st, it would shift into
3rd instead! I almost stalled in the middle of an intersection, after stopping at the light, thought I was in 1st but it went into 3rd instead!
After reading all the posts, I kinda narrow it down to the shift coupling or the shift rod bushing as most of you suggested, thanks for all the help
by the way! Really appreciated!
Checked out the coupling, couldn't tell whether I need to get it replaced or not...
Anyway, as I was gonna take it to VVDS to fix up the exhaust leak, the guys looked at it and it turned out only the shift rod bushing needed to be
replaced.
It now drives like a new car! No more hard pushing or yanking!
