Just a few dyno firgures from todays run for those that are interested.
Peters 356 speedster
1916cc got 85.5 hp at the wheels. Engle 120 cam & thats all I know, pete can fill in the rest
CT Hansens Oval 1916cc got 83.3hp at the wheels. Pobjoy steroid spec , 30/70 cam 044 heads 10.0:1 comp 1.58 inch header , 44mm webers etc etc.
Pauls L-Bug 2110cc got 93.7hp at the wheels
Jak Rizzo superbug 2027cc got 93.6hp at the wheels
Michael Saids Kombi 1971cc type 4 got 61.1hp at the wheels I'ts got a mild cam, big valve heads & single throttle body for induction
Leigh Harris' 59 Turbo got 'only' 155hp at the wheels!!!!!!! 2007cc, injected, turboed & intercooled.
It was a great day & the weather was nice & cool in Sydney today. There were a few highlights, I got to have a run as a passenger in
Leigh's turbo, I was car sick after the first 300m!!! I can't even begin to explain how frighfully fast it was. Leigh was short shifting at
5000rpm & the push in back from the seat was sickening!! It was simply amazing & the hp read out pretty much tells the story!
Another highlight was seeing Paul in his 2110cc L-Bug smoking the tyres at any given chance, running up to the end of the street at 6000rpm in third ,
reefing up the handbrake, spinning the car 180d, slamming back to first & lighting up the rear tyres again! It was hilarious & kids
shouldn't try that at home. We have it all on video Paul !!! so u can't deny it.
Back to the dyno figures, some bizarre numbers between my 2027cc & Pauls 2110cc, Here are the specs of both so u can do the comparrison.
2110cc (93.7hp) 2027cc (93.6p)
76x94mm 73x94mm
5.6 inch rods 5.7 inch rods
K-8 cam K-8 cam
1.4 rockers 1.4 rockers
9.3:1 comp 9.0:1 comp
39x32 heads 40x35.5 heads
Both sets of heads are ported & polished by Richard Hozl, & both have tall straight shot manifolds, match ported, both have 45mm Dellortoes
with the CB Performance update kit . both have 1.5 inch merged headers & the same 2.5 inch muffler.
Pretty close numbers huh?

Jak

How did the second runs go?
Hi Jak,
Thanks very much for the invite. Had a great morning socialising and having what was a great day. Hope you enjoyed your run around the block. CT
I'll take you for a run soon when I find out why my car is only making low boost.
Thanks again, we all had a great day. I now have another Dyno bench mark to move on from!
Cheers Leigh

Perhaps it make more power when you run the analyiser on it again.
very interesting leigh exactly what we where talking about!!!!
do u reacon them injectors would be why ur only getting minimal boost???or is it more turbo related???
cheers
rhys
All those cars look great. Where is the ol' stocker having a go on the dyno???
Steven
Hi Rhys,
Naaaa boost leak, somewhere I'd say. But a bigger set of injectors may help. I'm just worried about leaning it out. Running 96% duty cycle
on an injector isn't that great or smart. Guess I'll just have to bit the bullet one day and get some others.
Shame though, the curve is strong!

Back to back the 044s with no port work and 40 x 36 mm valves and 10:1 CR make 10% more power than the Street Eliminators with 44mm x 37mm valves and
9.5:1 CR. That's probably because the Eliminators needed more chamber work to unshroud the valves.
Next a 1 1/2 exhaust will proabably suit my stock exhaust ports better than the 1 5/8th. Also the chambered muffler might have to make way for a tuned
length straight through muffler.
I'm also going to try a beefier ignition/plugs and maybe some different emulsion tubes to get rid of a big spike in richness at 3000rpm.
Hopefully I'll get close to 90hp out of the 1916 once it's finished. May end up replacing compression with port work.
Bring it on for Eastern Creek Sat 18th of October (10% more grunt than last year).

Is that stock injection / aftermarket fuel only efi / full engine management??
Hi
Its a freshly rebuilt 2 litre with a small cam & Autronic SMC, all built by Leigh/vw59

Hi Cam,
Yes pretty happy with the car at this point. Im more impressived as to how the motor has improved with a few changes here and there, the curve is not
concave but a steep line from 1000 rpm's which show's how VW's respond well to small turbo's.
I'm not sure of drivetrain losses but two dyno operators I've quizzed say 20-25% losses.
I think the only way of telling is to place it on an engine dyno for sure!
Cheers Leigh

any chance of you scanning the printout and sending it to me? What cam is this?
What kind of boost is small boost to you?
You havent cracked the intercooler again have you?
One of these days I will get my car tuned properly. Somehow I have got to get it performing like it used to in the kombi.
Chris Baby,
I'll scan it tomorrow at work. I was only able to crack 13psi, but I've found the problem. No it's not another split intercooler. I had
too much tension on the wastegate actuator not allowing the wastegate to open up enough.
The cam is a Watson regrind. Love it!
Yep sure miss the Hellbus! One of the wildest rides I've been on. Hopefully one day you'll get around to rebuilding the motor back into the
Kombi. Stilll remember seeing the boost needle crack somewhere near the high side of 20's. Your Mad Mr Fraser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leigh
Leigh,
If you get the boost sorted like you mentioned, that will be nearly 200 ponys at the flywheel :o NUTZ!!!!
Have you done any 1/4mile passes in the car?
Cam
Hi Cam,
Not not with this new combo, did 13.1's before and it now has an extra 25 hp.
I just want to crack 12's in a beetle that's never worked on, driven in traffic and fully streetable, doesn't run hot, no puk, solid
mounts, laggy turbo, low boost etc.
Show the yank's what a street car really is!
Just a 12.99 and I'll be wrapped!
Cheers Leigh

Been using those Watsons cams for years they work Great
Dude, I'd be wrapped with 13's :o That's unreal. I think you'd be getting close to a 12.99 with just the extra 25hp. It's mostly about traction, from what I've heard.
