Got a bit further after that, and then returned, Well I am In Adelaide now, will be leaving on Sunday for Melbourne via the great ocean road,
My Mum came with me and we found her a 76 sanders campervan Kombie,{and now have to get it home,}{anyone fancy driving a kombie to the gold coast}
Didnt find too much that was worth the trouble, unless you live in Adelaide, because of the cost of transporting to Queensland.
I have all the phone numbers etc for the 11 Kombies I have found.
2 of them will be crushed this week, but they are beyond help and no parts except transaxles.
I videoed and took photos of nearly all of them,I will post the photos when I get home, 4 of them were 50s models 1 of the 50s ones was swiss cheese
not far from adelaide and 1 of them could be reserected but only if you were very very keen, not much rust but full of rubish and red dirt, those were
both panels and I found 2 with windows but will be checking them out on the way home...
one very smashed 60s 11window, hit by a truck I think.
My number is 0411 637 286 if anyone wants to say hello when I am in Melbourne or Sydney, we can make a bit of a photo story of the Journey,
I have posted this post in 2 seperate threads but you get that.
Cheers Tony
Well, heading off todayish from Adelaide.
We must be mad, we are sending the kombie camper home on a truck and then driving Herbie and sleeping in him too,
I went out to the National motor museum in Birdwood yesterday, thats got some nice cars in there.
and this is another photo in the same spot
Those are the remaining Hubcaps, taken from under the hood and put on for the photo.
Pleased to hear all going well
have a safe trip home
Marc & Kath

GO THE HERBIE,take the other herbies advice make a move, herbie saves the splits, have to be better than that banana movie one anyway, good work on a big mission, hope your having a fantastic time,:thumb
well what a trip
6899.2 klms in total.
No dramas, really,
Had a battery give up the ghost and a tyre chuff away to wire and a distributor that kept moving as we travelled, even though the bolts are very tight
something is askew but no matter found a real sweet spot for it and had Herbie doing real good,
Hes a stock 40 horse and we were happy on the freeway at 70-80 miles/hour and although he is pulling good, big hills will pull him down to 40 mph
Going back on Sunday to Adelaide by plane and then driving the Kombie home.
Hi Tony
Great shots of Herbie out the front of Birdwood, lucky you got away, did they ask if they could borrow him for a few days to display?
Rob.....
I am surprised that no one spotted me on the outback trip, I went to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney and waved and got the wave from heaps of VWs and
all sorts but no one it appears, saw me.
:cry
You drive a herbie, of course people will wave at ya bro !
its a big country but a small world we live on !
