For as long as I can remember with my 76 bug, I've been getting static shocks from my bug upon getting out. Some of the shocks have been as bad
as an electric fence shock.
Anyone else had this?
Seat material + your clothes + friction = static.
Try with fewer clothes.
hth
i believe it is the shoes you wear - how well they ground you (due to the type of rubber in the sole). do u get it no matter what u are wearing?
Try this: When exiting the car, Hold onto the door frame before and during stepping from the vehicle. ie hold onto the door during the whole
proceedure. This will stop you getting zapped.
Or
Buy a Buggy!!!!!
Hmm, my clothing...and possibly my shoes. I'll do an experiment and wear different shoes. I'll also try the 'holding onto the
door' trick.
Thanks fellas!!!
Body types as well, some of us are just very prone to them
For some reason my hair was standing on end every day a couple of weeks ago, and at work I was getting zapped when I touched metal. It can happen in
& out of cars.
My watches can stop working as well:jesus
I've never been zapped getting in or out of either of my two kombis, or even the two type 3's I've had, but my wife's Beetle
zapped me nearly everytime I got out of it. I just always assumed the Sacha (the bug) was punishing me for driving her, she is very attached to
Heather, after all!!!
Serves me right for not driving the kombi!
Same zapping thing happens to me too when i hop outof my mum's SSS or dad's Civic- when I'm wearing my Birkenstocks (cork and foam
sole). But my beetle doesn't shock me ( i think she likes me) no matter what shoes i wear. The holding on to the body when disembarking also
eliminates the shocking...

sometimes yes sometimes no in the same trusty rusty square
weather is my guess..............
I believe it is built up by the friction between the car and the air while you are driving along. This occurs mainly on dry days (low humidity) like
lip cracking winter days.
My liberty gives me a whack whenever it can, but mainly on dry windy days.
It always makes me jump and I swear every time I do it, because I can never prepare myself for it. I guess because its a nervous (shock) thing.
