How much did you pay for your first Volkswagen?
i made a mistake i got it for nothing but i pushed other!! sorry
$1000....and I wish I kept it ,59 baja.:cry
yes well, technically my Dad got my baja for $1200 but he also got my brother's baja, my sisters superbug, 5 engines, three gearboxes, several sets of wheels and mags, boxes and boxes or parts and miscelanious stuff.
$2000 no more to pay.
Drive away with 12 month Reg and a roadworthy.
Would you believe the Bloke had trouble selling it because people didn't like the Motor being exposed.
That was 4 years ago last Monday and it still looks unreal.
Since than it's had a optional new bigger engine and I changed the Interior after having it Judged harshly at it's first Show.
The car still hasn't cost me more than $3,000 and that includes the reco Gearbox I put in 2 weeks ago.
Nobody except myself, has ever worked on the car.
I have a total of eight Trophies and I got paid a shit load to have photos taken for a up comming add campaign.
I would sell my Ford and I would sell my Toyota, but I will never sell my Baja.
$1200 for Bel:kiss
Well, if you count the first VW I had to drive, a type 3 sqback, when I got my license, nothing
It was dad's. I got to drive it all the time on the condition that I took my mum for the shopping. A fair deal:thumb
Dad wrote it off one night coming home from work late:cry By that stage I was away from home, living in the city and using my feet to get around

My first was a pristine 64 i bought back in '80. It was perfect and i never realized just how good it was. I paid $1200 back then but in hind
sight it was a steel for its condition. Most others were selling for $500 - $750 for good ones.
As for best value that was Daisy. Under $6k and included a fresh 2L (as in new bearings, seals, cam, P&C's, fully powder coated tin etc and
rebuilt heads) powder coated cookie cutters 12mths rego, fresh paint and interior
$500 for the car intiially, but will spend upto a couple of thou b4 it hits the road (i am particular about how i want it), on the other hand, made around $500 selling spares of the spare kombi that came for free about a week later, so not doing too bad.
First beetle in the U.K cost me 200 pounds and I ended up throwing it away, rust and more rust.
Last beetle in the U.K cost 30200 pounds and spent another 4000 on it.
My kombi cost me $1500 and up to now I have spent about another $5000 - $7000 and it still needs paint ect, should end up costing me about $20,000 in
the end.
Them splitties aint cheap to do.
I got back from living in the U.S for afew years & dragged one of my yanky friends back with me.We bought a kombi in Q.L.D,it was a '71,1600
& cost us $2500 what a little ripper she was.We drove her over afew months from Noosa down to Melbourne stopping everywhere in between & we
didn't even check the oil!!!!!!She never let us down,"the old girl "was her name.I kept her for a couple of years(eventually checking
the oil) & then she finally went to that big veedub cloud in the sky!!!I then bought my '75 that i still have 2day.
How about another thread,
how much have you spent on your VW (and no bullshitting)
i bought my bus for the princely sum of $600 but have spent well over 10 times that on her to get her at the stage she is now
Col
i got my first for $400 a 71 panel, but it blew up ,still lasted a while just didnt like big trips,

I bought my first beetle in 1976 from my girlfriends Mum for $700 it was a 67 and it was also my first car. I killed the motor 6 months later and with
my older brothers help i rebuilt the engine and it went well for a first effort, it was still going when i sold it 4 years later....
That was 16 bugs and 9 kombis ago......
190 quid in 1965. A Manly Tan 1956 oval reg no. GOY 722.
Is it still out there??
Did heaps of miles & taught me lots. Replaced in '68 by my 1st cabrio- GFM 053-a '54 Gunya Grey with pale blue sides & burgundy
seats for the outrageous price of $550. (People couldn't understand why I paid twice the market rate for a beetle sedan) Now that one MUST be
still around!!
$6000 for the Lugged One money well spent too,oh yeah without rego.
$800 for my kombi camper last year. I've spent a fortune on it since but only because I love it!
I paid $2500 for a low mileage 65 Beetle, one little old lady owner, gave up driving, so I bought it! 10 years of trouble free motoring, picked up two
of my children from the hospital.
And the worst bit is, I SOLD IT! still kicking myself.
Rob......
I payed $950.00 for a 65 Type 3 Wagon in 1971. Bought it from Motorways a VW Dealer in St Peters Sydney.
The place is a hardware shop nowdays, still have fond memories when i drive past the place
$50, I was 14yrs old and I drove it home with no guards, also had to sit on a box as it had no seats, only one front wheel would work with the foot
brake and the rear only worked via the handbrake !!!!!
I drove it on a Friday in peak hour traffic from Asquith to Hornsby Heights !!! (about 5k's). I then spent two years sideways on every fire trial
I could find !!!!
Those were the days..................
My first legal VW was a $650 Baja, also being my first legal car
FIrst Vw Cost me 16000 for a 92 Golf Cab. First REAL vw Cost me 1000, and About another ARM to finish it (THE NOTCH). The Bug has cost me 10K so far,
and Still needs just about Everything. Will Prolly cost me 20-25k in the end, but Will be sweet!
N!
I swapped a Subaru Leone with a blown head gasket for my 1st VW, a '66 13 window splitty...sweet, also had 12 months rego and a 10 foot Barry
Bennett surfboard from the early 60's in it plus it was full of parts...
It began then and has turned into an addiction...just ask the neighbours
My 1st VW was a 69 Fastback & it cost $2500 in '91. Had a new paintjob & interior. Paint turned out a bodgy as rust started to appear after a little while! I probably got ripped, but I loved the fasty anyway. So far the 65 square has cost about twice as much as the fastback di & it's not on the road yet! I reckon I'll be up for over $10K before I'm happy!
Paid $800 for Shazza and dont regret it (2002)
Spent
$800 for rego and insurance
$400 on new hoodliner and rubbers
$150 on engine parts after fire
:cussing
$300 for installation of 1600TP that i scored off Decked Dubby
$120 for white walls
$120 for Rear venetians
I love her and reckon i got an awesome deal as ive had no other probs with her
:beer

Hey black math, just wait till you have to start working on it and putting it together, and replacing things. I know your bug is in good nick considering but it will need a lot of work and money, os you've got all of that in front of you...better start saving...
