OK folks.....time to put up your hand and admit to some VW mistakes you've made in the past. Things that you've done to a VW, that you now
look back on and go "why the heck did I do that".
I'll start.......
1970 Notchback bought in 1985 - one owner - immaculate interior. I hereby admit to putting an aftermarket glass sunroof in it, dechroming it, slamming
it, and running 135's / 205's and moon discs. I kick myself for not keeping this baby original.
1960 KG - was rough and I revived it, but again dechromed it, but never finished the interior. I kick myself for even getting rid of this.
1960 Kombi Camper - not Westfalia but was a 1960's after market job. It was a dog that I swapped for a rebuilt 1640 to go in the KG. I kick
myself because the guy who I swapped it with, wrecked it, and separated the roof off it.
:bounce
The 80's.....oh dear.
Squiz.....
sold my '66 beetle.
this was after saving it from the wreckers. restoring from floor to roof. putting in a rear oval graft from a 56 as well as the W bootlid. widened the
guards 50mm all round. dechromed it. layed it down low. smoothed the dash and fitted 'classic' vdo guages.
but yeah the worst i did...was SELL it. i really hope the lady is enjoying it.
haven't really got anything to add to the thread, but damn that dash is beautiful :o
i'm 16 not old enought to make mistakes yet
if that is the worst you have done u do good !
Hi
Let my sister loose interest in her Type 3 panel and let it go to tip.
Also regret not taking all those Ovals I have been offered over the years, one was a 53.
Knocked back a really clean Ghia with a slight engine fire for $500 in the mid 70s.
Sold my 63 Beetle rally car with 4 super oscars, halder twinmaster, maxrob steering wheel, really worked 1600 etc for $1500 in 1986.

damn !
Selling my semi-auto '68 to a guy who just wanted the car for the floor pan. I know these cars were slugish but I loved the idea and VW were way
a head of the rest with it. The tiptronics are more or less the same idea with new technology.

Havent had my bus yet long enough to make any huge mistakes.
lets hope i stay lucky and not make any!
I feel sorry for u guys that have!:cry
hehehehe im wif u addict and if im about to make a mistake hopefully ull spot it b4 me and stop me from doing it :P
I bought an original complete (stretchers, everything etc...) 1963 ambulance, gutted it and left all the items for hard rubbish day collection in 1988 and sold it to a mate (I believe was 350.00) who drove it around Oz...reason= lack of garage space!
Aldo, that takes the cake! The 80's were an insane time. I think it was all the hyper colour t-shirts. Did something to our brains or something :o
I watched a mate hack up a 59 bug and turned it into a baja, then I bought it of him sprayed it "GM matt black" and sold it.didn't even drive it :puke
I cut up 3 (THREEEEE) Beetles to make Bajas between 1979 and 1982. '60, '63 & '65. The '65 was pristine before I took the
hacksaw to it. Ended up with custom paint, woodgrain panelling and crushed blue velvet interior. Sold it to a guy who left it on Moreton island for a
weekend beach car for $800 in 1984.
I will post a picture of the '60 Baja when I fell brave enough... or drunk enough. (Yellow with bright green fogging paint job and green bull
bars) I embarased just typing this!!! :jesus
fell asleep at the wheel of my gorgeous '67 van and turned into a pile of spare parts
but wait....
that was 3 weeks after losing control of my '73 camper, also in perfect condition, on a dirt road, and parking it on it's roof.
I don't think you can do much worse than that to a vw
Had a 69 Fastback in 1985. Bought it from the original owner all original and in very good nik.Paid $500 for it with 12 months rego and RWC. Did the sunroof thing put mags on it and gave it a crazy paintjob. Sold it for $300 to finish my Celica rally car 2 years later.Should have kept it and left it standard. Being young and stupid sucks!!!:jesus
A neighbor of mine rolled 2 splitties in the space of two weekends. Second weekend I was in the passenger seat.:jesus
Pulled a 54 oval with a sunroof & a clock out of a paddock, sold it to a guy I know who in turn sold it to a Japanese fella.
So now it will end up a static display & I'll never see it.
Shoulda kept it myself......
