anyone know about straightening stainless steel?
i have an old knife with a VW logo forged in it, and the tip is bent and i need to straighten it (its an antique i think)
should i heat it? shout i get a bigger hammer? bare in mind i dont want to mark the metal..
ask a jewelar maybe, maybe and older one would be better?
older jeweler i mean.......
You should be able to heat the tip and bend it, it will discolour the s/s but it will return to it's original colour with some buffing, sanding
or use a bit of pickling paste (Hydrofloric Acid).....bad stuff.
A jeweller is a good idea, I used one once to get some s/s trim repaired and straightened on a 36 Ford coupe.
36 ford coupe very nice indeed.
