The morning session was good for driving skill. After changing to a softer front swaybar I felt like I was driving a rally car. Oversteer is good for the driving skills but not good for lap times. In the first timed session I was struggling to keep the car straight with a 2:07. I had a big sideways moment coming onto the main straight. I was about a quarter of a turn away from running out of opposite lock while I was doing about 100-110 kilometers per hour.

In the second timed run I went back to the old Yokohama A008Rs and they suited the new suspension a lot better. There rears nearly get up to temperature and the front's don't so it balanced out the oversteer. As I was about to get into it I got stuck behind a porsche boxter. He waved me through on the back straight where there had been an oil-down earlier (not dave becker) and I forgot that the clark of the course said "no passing there". Although it seemed safe and easy to pass I was greeted with a black flag on the front straight which ruined that run.

I only had one run left and the track temp was getting cold which is not good for the A008s. Anyway I gave it a go and started to get used to the cars handling and reeled off the 2.03 just on tenth behind Jak. It's amazing we seem to end up so close.

Our times should be sub 2 minute times next year. I know my engine wasn't performing properly. My dizzy has been playing up and I found out when I got home that it had less advance than a stock motor (bad).

Also next year we should be able to get the most out of our tyres. I now work at Yokohama and I have access to pyrometers and the guys at work are giving me good advice on tyre pressures and camber settings.

At present Jak and I are mid pack. We were 26th and 27th out of 50 cars. We easily beat the Nissan GTR again and we were the first non-porsches. We managed to beat a hell of a lot of Porsches including boxters and a 996 Turbo?????

No more racing until next year. :cry

great stuff!
two very different machines, and yet such close times.... you should swap cars sometime, see what times are like then.....

Jak would wipe the floor with me if we swapped cars. His car control is spectacular. I should know becuse I'm usually sitting one tenth of a second off his rear bumper when he's sideways.

How does one become involved in this fun? If you have a nice vw etc can you just turn up on the day. Or is it invitation only? What are the costs/rules etc?
