anyone tried pushing it thru a hard right hander with stock seats?
AAAGH
Left handers you can brace against the door, but it's still a bugger. is there a trick? is it my seats? should i get a four point harness and gaffa myself to the window winder?what IS the square root of pi?
racers, what do you do to counteract the massive gees? not too keen on breaking off my steering wheel (again).

NYAAAAGHHHHHH!!

what do you have steve?
and what wheels are those on yours? they're FULLY SHICK!

1303Steve - October 21st, 2003 at 12:23 AM

Hi Peter

I have really old Recaros, bought them in the late 70s, I couldnt believ the difference thay made when cornering, you are able to concentrate on driving and not flopping about in the car. Im not familiar with OBX seats

My wheels are replica Porsche and were made in Japan by Super Weapon, whoever they are. Fuuly Sick maaate, she does gutters

I've heard recaros are popular vw seats... is that cos they fit easy, they're good and comfy, or (crosses fingers) they're inexpensive...?
anyone else got recaros?

Anthiron - October 21st, 2003 at 10:41 AM

if u want to keep your origional seats then id buy some harnesses but if u are looking for a differnt option then id buy some racing buckets such as recaros or sparcos

HotRodMatt - October 21st, 2003 at 10:54 AM

Square root of pi to 5 decimal places is 1.77245

Craig Torrens - October 21st, 2003 at 03:22 PM

get yourself some cheap Jap import seats, I have GTI swift seats for my road bug, they are firm and have good side support. Also has a slit to run a 4 point harness ! Wes installed some Jap seats as well around $200 I think.

68AutoBug - October 21st, 2003 at 08:10 PM

Black Math
Its impossible to make a Manx out of a Super Beetle chassis as there is nothing to mount the McPherson strut suspension to.. torsion bar front suspension as on standard bugs are always used..

I guess i could just sit on the back seat....sure my legs are long enough :P

*ROTFL* Thats so true.

Yeah, stock seats don't make much for cornering fun :(
I remember going around Warrandyte road at 80MPH in one of my IRS/Balljoint beetles with stock low backs. Not fun. My mate in the passenger seat had his arms bent all muscles tense and gripping the grab handle 'til his fingers were red and knuckles white. We both had our seat belts as tight as they'd go and I was pretty much monkey bar-ing off the stock steering wheel. :bounce
I ended up letting the chase go, after I came out of an S bend and my foot came off the throttle because I'd moved so far to the left, and the seatbelt buckle was digging into my side badly.
Plus I came to my sense at how stupid it was since if something had run out on the road we would both be dead.:jesus

Honda prelude seats are always a good swap into a beetle. Very hugging too.

BiX - October 22nd, 2003 at 01:22 PM

donkey there are lots of seats that will fit, but the attachment method is the problem. It depends on if u want recaro, or a jap import seat. The best way is to measure the width u have inside the car, and take a tape measure along, sit in the seat to make sure u feel comfortable then measure the seat width. Remember to leave room for the handbrake and also the base has to be narrower than the top of the squabs.

U can either have a full custom base or did like i did, and cut an old L bug seat down and weld on flat to bolt the seat to with the correct grade bolts. If u can leave as much of the old seat base as possible, it makes it easier to blue plate.

I Have Integra seats in Blue2. More bolstering but not as much adjustment
