a question sorta on that tpic, what is the model used most for a ute convo?

Kai.A. - October 24th, 2003 at 07:58 PM

the ones i've seen have either been a late bug or a t3 squareback......

Not sure that this would be described as a ute....

KruizinKombi - October 25th, 2003 at 04:41 PM

This was at Day of the VW 2003

KruizinKombi - October 25th, 2003 at 04:43 PM

I imagine the Oildrippers would like this one, especially if it was lower....

the factory utes had a nice wooden tray i think, like the type 3 panel.....

its a cool car col, i read up on it ages ago, i would do it to a notch and leave the boot as the rear of the square looks a bit whack

SKEWtYpe3 - October 25th, 2003 at 05:20 PM

i thnk this is the same guy as the black/yellow cut off type 3

this was a fasty i think, and he cut the whole door section out and welded it together...............

thats what i am saying Kai, they look cool but when u have seen the real deal they look whack, VW did a smash up job of the factory ute
the tray setup looks very similar to the DOVW one, i aint too clued up on the OG ones but they have old school style.

Kai.A. - October 25th, 2003 at 11:38 PM

i just think that grey (dovw) one looks spot on! that picture is stuck in my brain now! :bounce

the best thing about something like that compared to any other ute is that you still have a bunch of extra storage at the front where everyone else has an engine :D

i want one!!!!!!

kai

SKEWtYpe3 - October 25th, 2003 at 11:50 PM

thats a type 3 (probably squareback)

u want to do one or buy one?

Kai.A. - October 25th, 2003 at 11:59 PM

i don't fancy my chances of buyin' one, it'll be a one-off that someone built, but i would love to own something that looked like that, so in the right circumstances i reckon i'd have a stab at buildin' one:cool:

just need the money, tools, parts and a decent donor type 3:thumb

Black_math - October 26th, 2003 at 11:32 AM

SKEWtYpe3 - October 26th, 2003 at 06:24 PM

lotsa planning required to keep 'em cool, air flow etc... this one had such problems but were fixed from memory. ( had a quick chat with the owner)

jonno-t3 - October 28th, 2003 at 04:33 PM

Kai.A. - October 28th, 2003 at 04:38 PM

that is pretty darn sweet!!!
interesting tailgate arrangement behind the cab..... different :thumb

i think a type 3 based ute conversion tends to look better than a beetle based one......the lines fit better....

I recognised the first pic Col put up, because I did that in PhotoPaint about 2 years ago when people were asking about utes last time. Good to see my old pics still doing the rounds...LOL

As for the others, they're all pretty cool, especially the black Beetle ute. I had a real good look at it at the "Dubs by the Pub" do a couple years ago and was quite impressed.

Oh, I should mention that mine is technically a ute. Registration says it a "Volkswagen Utility" and it's on commercial rego too. So legally, it's a good ol' work ute.

Baja Wes - October 28th, 2003 at 07:30 PM

golf ute

Baja Wes - October 28th, 2003 at 07:33 PM

golf ute 2.

By the way, the black beetle ute proved to be very expensive to make as the DPT required it to undergo a torsion and beaming test, which it failed the first time around. Talk to the DPT before you make a ute.

koolkarmakombi - October 28th, 2003 at 07:38 PM

What is a beam and torsion test Wes?

Ive had a look at that black one its pretty sweet but cannot carry much. Was for sale at the time.
