i didn't see it so i'm not offended. but it is a nice gesture from where i stand to make the apology to those who you did offend.:thumb

jenz58 - October 30th, 2003 at 09:33 PM

The internet & sort text messages can be a problem in that it is not a normal conversation, and things can get out of hand if taken the wrong way

It is a breading ground for miscommunication sometimes:(

I've noticed a lot of the symbols you had in you're old signature and fairly commonly available in some shops around town, as a style thing. Often the old meanings of them are forgotten and so people who wear or display them don't realise that they may offend some people I'm guessing

Bugged Again - October 30th, 2003 at 09:51 PM

No matter what you do you will offend at least one person somewhere.
I put a nice post up once and it was deleted within 5 minutes.

On the bright side you can now go and spend some time looking for a replacement signature. Join the manx club and they'll supply you with a non offensive one (But thats not right because bajas and buggies are offensive to people who don't like seeing beetles chopped up) Can't win can you

Did you eventually find out how to become a moderator?????:(

kombikim - October 30th, 2003 at 11:33 PM

I missed any posts re the signature
but I well remember some of the symbols in the picture for the horror they strike in many peoples hearts, unfortunately with the passage of time their true meaning has been lost to many
The man in the photo died just a few days after the photo was taken, a very sick, very old man- it was 1969 & he was only 62 - I came home from school, 12 years old & found him dead on the kitchen floor. Those symbols were directly responsible for killing my father over a period of 29 years, it was not Germany, he bought a Volkswagen sight unseen from the first shipment in 1954 before the boat had landed, it was specifically the Nazi's.
To put into current terms the meaning of those symbols, try going up to a Bali bomb blast victim & rattle off how funny the whole thing was - I hope I have explained this OK
:(

thats ok Black_math....give me some sugar baby!

jenz58 - October 31st, 2003 at 07:16 AM

My dad served in both the Middle East and Pacific campaigns during WWII. Was a 'Rat of Tobruk' and then a 'spotter/scout' in the Pacific being dropped of onto small islands on his own to look for Japanese radio posts, getting around in small fishing boats to look like a local. Also was in lead/scout parties across PNG. Have a pic of him crossing a river, also one of him and others digging a mass grave for our dead in PNG (not a nice image)

Dad never brought us up to hate or get so upset over things, but to take a rational balance view of things. Dad actually had respect for Romel, he thought he was a fair man and a good leader despite the side he was on. It was the SS that was the problem. As far as the worst during that period, dad thought the Japanese were, but was happy to accept a Japanese person into our family

I have Jewish friends and I've heard all sides:(

We should never forget what happened. As far as saying it will never happen again, well it does and has been ongoing in many places and not under those symbols.

Bali is not because of the symbols but due to only a couple of crazy radicals who end giving a wrong idea about a whole bigger group of innocent people.

I think it's about time we lost the angry over some things and move on. This does not mean forget. Also just be a little more sensitive when you create a signature. If you are using old symbols be aware of the history

We are all driving VW's. In the first factory Hitler used forced labour, this is an issue with some. Should we all sell our VW's????

apology accepted.......but i wasnt really offended by it to start with.

jenz58 - October 31st, 2003 at 09:48 AM

I wasn't either, but a bit of a debate started yesterday over it

It was a bit in your face but not offensive, to me in anyway

Black_math has made a change to his signature, and has apologised I think it's time we moved on

The apology was a great gesture and well intended:):thumb

Lets not darken his intention by continuing something that should now be let go of...

Black-Math
I was not offended by your signature, but I was taught that you will always hurt someone no matter what you say or do and that we should think before acting.
In this case it is obvious you have taken to heart the comments that were made, and I thank you for being big enough to change what is obviously an extremely touchy subject.

For this, thank you for being big enough to apologize to all concerned in this very public posting.

Kathy

Thank You!

kustomkool - October 31st, 2003 at 10:44 PM

Seems nothin changed around here.Still people baging people. What a joke.
Im no national socialist but I love the symbology and the fonts that they used on there propaganda posters.i think it looks kool they where ahead on there designs than the rest of the world.I dont think Black math is a nazi or killed jews etc etc.I you dont like it dont look say it.
Get over it he is a young lad lets not turn him off.VW

Boozer - October 31st, 2003 at 11:26 PM

I should say in Black Math's defence over his pics that he got them from the "Blitzkreig racing" site who have modified the original German WW2 images to their own stickers. I was actually involved with Black Math setting up his banner with these pics and I honestly didn't htink that they would cause as much fuss as they did. I know what their original meaning was and the history behind them as I am a history student and have been studying military history since I was seven but this was a suprise, the pics are actually previews of stickers by the Blitzkreig racing team and available on their site.

http://old-volks-home.com/

I know that Black Math has a relative that was a famous German officer during world war two and I also have distant relative that was a U-boat commander but that doesn't matter, I won't say any more about that, you'll have to ask BM if you wanna know more. What i'm trying to say is that neither BM or I had any intentions of offending anyone even thought we both knew the historical significance behind these pics we didn't think it was gonna end up like this. My apolagies to anyone upset because of this it wasn't intended.

Flying VW - November 1st, 2003 at 07:25 AM

I didn't find those girls on that site offensive, or anything else really. :)

Boozer - November 1st, 2003 at 04:42 PM

remember to think before you post...

Kombicol - November 2nd, 2003 at 09:41 AM

I just come in on the end of all that but i managed to gleen from the posts what it was about,

This is sort of related...
Has anyone here ever heard that the VW symbol on a beetle hubcap when doing approx 30mph looks like a swartsticka (-nazi symbol -sorry dont know the correct spelling ) slowly turning backward????

My uncle is an old euro mechanic and he swears it is true,

Flying VW - November 2nd, 2003 at 09:55 AM

I swear I seen one turn into something like a window frame once. with a + inside a square. if you can picture what i mean.

Remember when there was wankers who thought the A.F.L foot ball would turn into a Swat sticker when it was flying through the air.

Also somebody told me once that he pulled the roof lining out of an origional oval beetle from Germany and the glue had been put on the roof in a Swat Sticker pattern, I don't know if that's true.

Black_math - November 2nd, 2003 at 11:06 AM
