VW weekend at sawtell
kombi_kid - October 31st, 2003 at 06:55 AM

hey people
i have an idea it is a show similar to that of the VW spectacular.
It will be held here where i live Sawtell which has become a very trendy coastal town.
It would be held at the local caravan park who has already accepted the idea of it!!! it has a oval type thing for the car show, a hall for entertainment and traders and is fully facilitised!
There is heaps of cruises we could go on and unlimited leisure activities to do!
what i wont to know is what weekend will people like to come whether is great all year round!!
cheers

Good One Rhys....
a big job though...
I believe in the spring or Autumn is OK as the weather at Sawtell would be great, even in the winter time.... weather is great.... a change from cooler days elsewhere... just like Nambucca...
Its Very Cold here in Scone during the day when Nambucca is on..... so its a great change...
it would be the same at Sawtell.....
so when its cooler elsewhere would be a good time Rhys....
Best of Luck...

Sawtell is closer to Brisbane than Valla isnt it?? Cool

68AutoBug - November 1st, 2003 at 12:45 AM

YES 11Cab,

its a bit further Up the Highway.....
around 30 kms North of Nambucca...
I did think it was further until I looked at a map..

sounds cool.
i think it's a good idea to get other classic and custom vehicles involved, just adds a bit more depth to the show......plus more people will turn up:D

Throw it in one of teh places on teh border in one of those poxy caravan parks.

sgetty - November 1st, 2003 at 05:32 PM

well i reckon sawtell caravan park would be a greatplace to have it cause theres heaps of room, ive been to some of the caravan parks on the border (nsw-queensland) and theres just not the room to accoumodate such a thing. Sawtell is a bloody nice place too nothing poxy about it.

kombi_kid - November 1st, 2003 at 06:37 PM

ok i will make a few phone calls during this coming week see what i come up with!!
what do u think is needed???
is there need for a auction/dinner on the saturday night?
or is everyone fine to use the facilities and have say a theme ball in the hall???(one for you jay and jen!)
i want this to be something that majority want and not the hassel of judged shows its gonna be a public judge show and shine! what do people think of that instead of judges doing the work?
cheers

hey sounds good to me. but try to avoid august as it will clash with the biannual of valla. unless your going biannual as well.
wasnt there a biannual in port once.

squizy - December 1st, 2003 at 08:51 PM

Hastings River VW Club used to run the biannual opposite Nambucca, but it hasn't happened lately.

Beware that Donna Pell is thinking of running a 20th anniversary for Nambucca next year, so people might be reluctant to make two trips.

Sawtell is great....love the way the island offshore connects at low tide.

Squiz.....

byronbus - December 1st, 2003 at 08:54 PM

We'd make a trip down the coast for a weekend of VW's and friends...:thumb

sgetty - December 2nd, 2003 at 08:42 PM

seventies night, can never have enough of them:thumb

kombi_kid - December 9th, 2003 at 07:46 PM

Talking to Luke Pell today-sems there are only a few minor hurdles and we will be able to enjoy a 2004 Spectacular at Valla
yippy!!!!
Bounced the idea of a biannual event at Sawtell (Coffs Harbour) around and it should be a goer.
Luke is also keen to organise a social run(s) for local VWs ie Mid North Coast NSW
-any interest?

twoguns - December 9th, 2003 at 07:56 PM

i would be interested in the mid north coast get togethers. keep me posted.:thumb

VWCOOL - December 10th, 2003 at 08:03 AM

yeah, Sawtell is cool! I used to stay there in the 70s at Grandparent's place near Boambee. It's all different now! Have been a back a few times in the last few years and stayed at the Caravan park. It's a good park with lots of room and would be good for a car display
