Question - USB connection on puter???
jenz58 - November 4th, 2003 at 10:55 PM

OK I know there are enough puter nerds on here to answer this one, and at this hour!!!;):bounce:bounce

Not that Tandy or anyone else is open now for me to run out to!!:(

Can you buy adaptors for the ends of USB going into the puter

I have 2 spare ports but connection is wrong size!!!:(

I have my cable for the video in one OK but just got a Canon digital SLR and was hoping to download some pics:cry:cry

Any answers????

Hmmm, would the cable that I use on the video camera work OK if it's other end fits in the camera???

Nothing is going to explode on me is it???

fatboy - November 4th, 2003 at 11:05 PM

Wrong Size ?

A firewire cable (Sometime called 1394) looks a bit like a usb but is a different size.

Have a look in the camera maual and see if it is 1394.

NERDS ??? - oh you mean everyone but me - that ok then :D

All USB ports are the same these days. If you have spare ports I am guessing they are not USB.

If you have a USB port and have your Video plugged in then you can unplug it and put the camera USB cable in there while the computer is on.

What do the spare ports look like ? Do they have pins or what ?

jenz58 - November 4th, 2003 at 11:15 PM

Hmmm, let me check with the torch!!!

I've been sitting out side and thinking about this one:)

Geeks then Steve:D

jenz58 - November 4th, 2003 at 11:21 PM

Not pins in ports and don't need pins

But none of my spare ports anywhere match the connection:(

Maybe I've had too much sun today, and should sleep:sandrine

Damn I can never go to bed with something like this defeating me!!!

OK I'm gonna stand on my head and try it:thumb

jenz58 - November 5th, 2003 at 12:04 AM

I've tried every which way and no luck.

I mustn't have a USB port or something else is using it??? Again no USB port listed in Device Manager?

What do I need to get, and I'll go get it???

Thanks:thumb

fatboy - November 5th, 2003 at 12:08 AM

The very last group in Device manager should be:
"Universal Serial Bus Controllers"

helterskelter400 - November 5th, 2003 at 12:13 AM

usb plug -

should go into puker

helterskelter400 - November 5th, 2003 at 12:16 AM

usb plugholes on puker (the two on left. serial plug is on right)

if any plug is already in one of these, unplug it & get your camera plug in it...

helterskelter400 - November 5th, 2003 at 12:29 AM

jenz58 - November 5th, 2003 at 06:56 AM

Thanks!!!!

Have two run and take Dr L for a major standard service. Was going to have a look tonight

Just looked at device manager again and I do have USB controllers working:)

Brad - November 5th, 2003 at 07:36 AM

You may have the mouse plugged into it and only have one on your board.

jenz58 - November 5th, 2003 at 08:13 PM

That's what I've been thinking, cos I don't have many things plugged in back there and no spare USB ports, argh!!!

I'll be back, have dinner cooking!!!

So glad I used the Chrissy tree smilie, it makes finding this sooooo easy!!!:D

KOM123 - November 5th, 2003 at 10:55 PM

As long as you have one USB port you can always buy a USB hub to add more connections :)

For example:

http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/3fa8f3b1022280c2273fc0a87f9c0758...

I'm not endorsing the above product, never tried that brand, just knew I could find a picture at that site that might explain a little better what I mean.

jenz58 - November 5th, 2003 at 11:28 PM

Just found my scanner in the USB Port!!!!!:bounce:bounce:bounce

Now it's so late. Too many distractions tonight/ getting used to daylight saving

But tomorrow for sure now:thumb

Why did they put only one USB port in the puter?:jesus

fatboy - November 6th, 2003 at 12:10 AM

one is a bit odd.

I have a hub here that I dont use any more (New laptop has four ports), so your welcome to it.

:D

jenz58 - November 6th, 2003 at 08:02 AM

Wahoo, in the daylight I could see I had a spare port!!!!:bounce:bounce

You were right Steve :)

Pics are downloaded and I'll play with them tonight when I get home:thumb
