Ok guys & girls,
What makes a good rat look apart from the old beaten up look of the body? ....
i know its a big motor, big breaks ... nice wheels ...
but what do you do ? find an old bug ... pull the body off the pan .... leave the body as is & go to town on the pan & running gear ... is
that what you do ? or is it more than that ?
I just wanna know .... i am intrested ?
cheers
57 Cal look :alien
lol.. thats what i plan do with this 58 of mine.. just that.. found the sucker in a barn. just need a HOT pan!..
Mate thats definately a rat looker, it's lookin for a few rats to move in!
Rob...
The tail out the back??? (groan):puke
that's what I'm doing to my '54.
bigger engine, BRM's dropped front, T-bars on the outside. Race harness, DDS shifter, and a big ol' VDO tacho on the inside.
No bodywork, 'cept maybe fibreglass bonnet, and deck lid, or cabrio style decklid.
can't wait to get started:thumb
sorry vwtyp2 that VW is way to good for a rat look !sounds more like you're doing a Calooker !! green57 is spot on, the body needs to be
absolutely SH#T, but complete, this can only be achieved by finding a dog of a Vw. Everthing needs to be original ,just in poor condition. Then go the
big motor, some race seats and suspension mods
man please dont touch that Oval it looks hot as it is
Why dont u buy Matties Oval (which is 50% cal look) and work on that its only $2750 :bounce
vwtyp2 stick it in a barn for a few more years.. looks too nice as
is!!
.. here is another pic... hmm maybe too rat??.. its all there, well missing 1 wheel and a few hubcaps.. :p
to me there is a line between "rat look" and "shit box look"
cal look to me is like say a DKP III car.
mega detailed everything, and an engine so clean you could eat off it.
rat look to me is still a clean car, but in original used condition, a few blemishes here and there, with only performance modifications.
big splotches of primer and lumps of filler falling out of the car looks more like a p.o.c. to me than a "rat look".
maybe I should have kept my Jungle Green '56. it was heaps neater than green 57's. I sold that for $500 about a year ago.
I mean go for it Green, I love "rat look". but theres a line between what is rat and what is a turd. that green paint looks like it'll
polish up well. Dump it to the weeds and wedge in a stinkin' type 4.
that's what I'm talkin about.
:thumb:thumb go Green go :thumb:thumb
Forget the buff.. Leave that paint as is. Look at that roof!!! AWESOME!! You can't BUY stuff like that..
It should be patchy too, so for example, you will have to replace the taillight yeah? Make sure the surround isn't green like the rest of it..
Mix it up a bit. It must be heavily lowered... I can't emphasise that enough. Wheels aren't heaps necessary, but a nice touch. If you
don't lower it, you can put it in the 'piece of crap' pile, because people won't understand where you are coming from..
Motor? Yeah, if you want you can whack something huge into it, but then make sure the brakes and so on are tweaked accordingly. I'd whack
something in that works and cruise.. Bugger power when you look like that.. he he..
Keep the towbar too.. Make sure you keep that damn thing.. As is.. DON'T TOUCH IT! :thumb
That will make a good rat looker. To me the Rat Look is exactly that look, with nice set of chrome wheels, empi 5's or Randars, mechanically
perfect and a big arse motor. Interior should be functional only with ripped seats and dangly head lining.
Go for it Green 57. Be the first in Aus to do it. :thumb
im gonna be ge going for the on the road look. gonna stick a set of brms on the ol girl,a trusty 16 twin port and drop her to the floor. the moor dents dirt and dead flies she collects along the way the better.
i wouldnt get too excited if you plan to rego it. they dont look to favourably at rats in nsw. they like single colours and no holes and stuff. so i would be sure your sorted b4 you get to excited.
oh yeh primer you need primer on the outside 4sure its a must even if you spray it sum where where its not needed :bounce its one of those rat things
you just HAVE to HAVE :P
(i got primer )
that's perfect....
to be a good rat it has to have attitude and be loud and proud to be a rat. Rust, old colour that's faded like green or black or somehting. The nice wheels thing is not essential in my book, seeing a really good rat with really shiny chrome mags sort of ruins the feel and attitude of the car. big, loud and proud exhaust, big engine also help...
