Then I hear another good friend has done the same thing or similar with a certain Hotty Notch that i used to own :(

BenettonVW - November 17th, 2003 at 02:41 PM

Oh man...

I am now a true oil dripper.. The car slowly died, and no response come to accelaration.. After a minute or two of trying to limp it to my destination(about 10mins away) she turned off and died. Teaches me for driving when it is 37 degrees or whatever it was Sat arvo.. Then came the oil..

BenettonVW - November 17th, 2003 at 02:48 PM

Its getting looked at as we speak.. By a Ford dealer believe it or not.. But anyway, hope it is only minor..
Have a close look at this pic... No dramas huh?

Look closer..

oval TOFU - November 17th, 2003 at 02:51 PM

I think I nearly did that to my poor Belle too... 'cruzing' along the Eastern Freeway (about 20 mins) and about 40mins after i got home, i could still hear the fuel vapourising in the fuel pump! I lobbed in a thermometer into the dipstick channel and recorded 73 degrees... What the operating temp supposed to be ppl?

Next time i won't push the ol' girl's 40HP too hard when its 30+ weather...poor baby mwah mwah! :sandrine

Unity-28 - November 17th, 2003 at 02:55 PM

Jim, this is a serious Q? how did you cope with the heat in that sun and out in the dry land you were. Hope you had plenty of water! Damn that dont look too good, but Hopefully its just made to look worse cause of how thin the oil would have been in that heat!

n!

BenettonVW - November 17th, 2003 at 03:03 PM

Yeah just do what you do mate.. Drink cold drinks and get out of it if you can into A/C..

Bloody oil everywhere.. Mind you, this is after about 35 minutes, maybe 40, of driving, in this car, for the day.

robnjo - November 17th, 2003 at 03:10 PM

hey theres a spot as round as a beach ball of oil stain where I park my dubbie at dreamworld for the past 5yrs before I got my motor done......does this mean I could join the oildrippers lol

Grey 57 - November 17th, 2003 at 07:30 PM

Bad luck guys. Hope you get them sorted for the weekend. Drive Inn and the Day Of.

Black Bug, I thought that motor was almost dead at the Dyno Day earlier this year. Lasted for a while.

My advice to anyone with an aircooled VW would be to fit a oil temp gauge and watch it real close on those 39 + degree days.

koolkarmakombi - November 17th, 2003 at 07:40 PM

Stealth - November 21st, 2003 at 12:05 PM

Hey Jimbo, did you get the hotty notch going yet?

helbus - November 22nd, 2003 at 08:09 AM

We have never had a problem with the bus on hot days. All the tinware is on, the thermostat is on and operational, the tinware seal is fully sealed and the decklid is kept shut.
This allows all of the air the fan pulls from outside the engine bay to be pushed over the required parts of the motor to cool and not around them.
I suppose the heat is not good, but making sure the tinware is in place, oil cooler not blocked and the built up oil is removed helps.
