dodge - November 26th, 2003 at 04:39 PM

okies, I'm lookin at settin up me sound system. I've had clarion, alpine, focal and blaupunkt recommended to me.
What do ppl have in there cars?? Any ideas for me?? :D

Riaan - November 26th, 2003 at 04:44 PM

im running some big ass kenwoods atm they dont go wrong, or jamo "the sound of excelence":D

SteveMk2 - November 26th, 2003 at 04:53 PM

Got a blaupunkt Paris head unit, Blaupunkt 10 disc stacker, Blaupunkt 4 by 6 speakers in th back (correct size for factory apertures... no holes thanks!) and I am still running the original Blaupunkt 3 and a halfs in the dash. The sound in the car is incredible, even from these small speakers. The GTI came with Blaupunkt standard, so that is what it keeps.

I drive to the soothing tunes of a German boxer. No sound system required :D :D
There's a radio there some where the other half likes to use, no appreaciation of fine machinery :kiss

pioneer head deck ,180 w mid and tweeters at the front
220 w 6 inch at the rear, 2000w 12inch sub and a v12 amp.

My system isnt exactly a big dollar thing to be marvelled at but it is a clarion head unit DRB4675 from memory, its 2 years old. I've had its predecessor 3675 in my lancer for about 5 yrs. Speakers are just 6 inch 3 way clarion something.

I have had Alpine and Pioneer head units before. The pioneer one spent a lot of its life in pieces on the techies bench. Mongrel thing. The Alpine went shuzbut intermittently and wouldnt play for a few days. Only problem with either clarion is that some bastard broke into the car and stole the face off one of them. $150 replacement. Think they were both around the $400 mark. Not saying that pioneer or alpine are no good, but the 2 I had were lemons.

I'd definitely get one that will play mp3's. Make backup copies of all your CD's and keep the copies in the car. Costs a LOT of money to replace them when you get broken into.

Hi

Im using a JVC SX 975 head unit with CD and a 12 stacker under the seat, 8 inch Kenwood sub in the rear shelf run by a Kenwood PS 100 amp, 6.5 splits in the front 1/4s and 6.5s in the rear shelf are run by an Alpine ?? amp. The JVC head unit has 2 sets of preouts.

JVC have an outlet shop in Kingsgrove in Sydney, they often have some good stuff cheap.

ATM i have a sony single disk headunit (came with car), 4" antique poineer (i think) spits in the rear, 6x9 2way explods ($60 at market, unused as they were a present for an elderly lady and too loud for her) and a 60w Voxon amp/equaliser that i will either chuck on front or rear speakers (havent decided yet, probably rears) so that i can match the fronts and rears perfectly ($5 at DOVW)

overall the system owes me $80 including the fresh wiring, and sounds wonderful. the bass out of the old splits is phenominal - beats the bass from the explods!

Nothing over the top but does the job :)

KruizinKombi - December 1st, 2003 at 08:34 PM

Hehehehe..... I've got an authentic 1970's Ferris AM/FM Cassette Radio, with original analogue tuning!! Stereo too!!

My plans for a decent stereo have been shelved for the moment, so I'm using my 'Coca-Cola' discman. :D (ear plugs and all, because my tape player doesn't work! :o)

Mad Manx - December 1st, 2003 at 08:54 PM

Well I have a clip on mp3 player and some stereo headphones :bounce Cant get stolen if its in my pocket:thumb

squizy - December 1st, 2003 at 08:56 PM

I remember my first VW didn't have a radio at all. So daggily, in the 80's, I strapped my stereo casette in next to me. Went through a #$@#$ load of batteries.

Squiz....

Adam_C - December 1st, 2003 at 09:32 PM

10" jaycar response sub, two twoway 5" panasonics, coupled with the 2" splits alll on the rear speaker shelf with 19mm MDF. also some 'marathon' 5 inch in the holes under the rear seat, which sound tinny, but hey, you can't hear them unless your speakers are unplugged cos the shelf is off :D
amp is a showy 600w bridged (to sub) blue-lit jvc thingy, which is okay, and head is a 30 dollar cash converters kenwood tapedeck, with cd adapter. also the coke cd player which kinda sorta skips and hits the floor if you drive too fast. more than enough to muffle the idfs on a long drive :thumb

SteveMk2 - December 2nd, 2003 at 02:01 PM

I didnt mention, the head unit I got has a keycard, so i dont have to worry about detachable faces. It wont work without the keycard and the unit flashes like an alarm led when the card is removed. Also it doesnt look ridiculous, so does not attract thieving lowlifes. Subtlety, Fantastic stuff.
