well after four days without veedubbers, i was a little stressed. woke up early this morning and remembered it was first of the month, and we are back!
so good morning to all and welcome back. someone might have to do something about bandwidth, huh. it was a real bummer not being able to get the daily fix of vw news.

i think maybe that some of the older threads might have to go. maybe some sort of sorting system will need to be used. otherwise it will be like the mods said.... 'come towards end of each month and we go down'.

now that we are back I can stop drinking....

:thumb My broadband connection went down for a week and then finally was able to log on and the forum was down...I got so much work done, but great to be back

my olds noticed alot more time dedicatedc to my VW's and not on the forum while it was down!!!
i hope that never happens again it was a very stressful period of 4 days!

I think that post of the DOVW with 9 pages of pictures attached would have chewed through a lot of bandwidth.

I reckon if you have lots of pics to post then use an online picture slideshow site like Yahoo Albums or shutterfly, or Sony Imagestation. Most of these give you unlimited picture storage and let you post a link to a slideshow.

yea what Steve said. Also we all get web space when we sign up to our respective ISP's from around 5~20meg per account so I think that people should be utilizing that a lot more. All you really need is a copy of cuteFTP or similar and its as easy as logging into a web page. The other benifit is that images can be as big as you like. If anyone is interested in knowing how to upload images to some private web space I'm happy to pen a few notes to get you started.

YAY! once more i have good reason for being online! just a thought, maybe we should just ban collections of images from shows unless they are hosted somewhere else. the 600+ pics posted by everyone of DOVW, although wonderful to see, must have been the reason we blew it so badly this time.

I'm quite certain that the show pics are the reason we blew the bandwidth quota, but people have to remember that it isn't the posting of these pics that causes the problem, its the viewing of them.

We can still have the pictures if people remember to look at them once only. Try to save the ones you want the first time you view the page, rather than going back time after time to have another look. I'm fairly certain that this will reduce our bandwidth use quite considerably.

Free time!!!

Both at work and home, it made me realise how much of a time sink this forums is, not that it's a bad thing

There was nothing we could do until the first of the month, and then we were back!

We chewed 14 GB in just over 25 days, and yes DOVW were heavy on the bandwidth juice, but that's okay, it's what this site is about. I'll be talking to Brad about more bandwidth, whilst simultaneously trying to conserve more.

I will be performing some surgery on the site which will be hopefully transparent to you except that if you check the threads for new images or similar, the ones you've seen before will be loaded immediately.

This will hopefully reduce our server load ... a great deal.

Anyway, glad to be back!
