Hi there!
I just got a 74 Kombi. Light blue, not much rust I believe.
It had problems - losing power after about 15 mins driving. Had a major service done before the trip coming up, and he reckoned it was the fuel pump.
Cost me $200 for a 2nd hand refitted one. The old one was a brazillian part. Other stuff was dodgy too. Bummer.
But, hopefully it'll run OK now.
I've read heaps of the posts in the tech forums, eager to learn more. (Got the Haynes manual already!)
I'm in eastern Melbourne. Does anyone know where I could look up for example swap meet dates, events, and so forth?
Cheers.
Aurel.
Welcome to the forum, and to the wonderful world of Volkswagens.
There are many members in Victoria so I am sure they will give you all the assistance you need.
Your will see a Calendar of Events towards the bottom of the opening page, that may help, but just ask and members of the various clubs will give you
the information you need.

Welcome to the forum.
Haynes manual is pretty good for the Bay Kombis.
Events as Swampwitch said, also 'Vintage & Veteran' section of Saturday's Age for non-VW swapmeets.
