Type 1 = Beetle

Type 2 - Kombi T1 up to 67, T2 up to 79, T3 up to 92, T4 up to 03, T5 who knows !

Type 3 - The old aircooled sedan, coupe and wagon

Type 4 - The old aircooled coupe and sedan

Any reference to T3 should be for a type 2

Type 2 - T3

9/1979 to 8/1982 - Aircooled 1.6 & 2ltr
9/82 to 8/85 - 1.9 WC & 1.6/1.7/1.6Turbo Diesel
9/85 to 92 2.1 WC & Diesel

Australian vehicles did not come with 1.6 aircooled or the Diesel engines.
Above dates are model/build dates and NOT compliance dates. Compliance dates are not relevant for model changes at all.
