I got a free beetle how to tell the year ?

I picked her up to day she is a 68 unit that has had two owners . some one got the heart / how can I tell the year ? the vin ect is hard to read 62 I think = 642 first dig on body ( pan )

Sorry I had to laugh seagull but when I read "I got a free beetle" by a seagull I instantly had the picture of a "Finding Nemo" seagull bragging about what he got "Mine" "Mine" "Mine mine" lol
could just be my twisted sense of humour but hey that sounds great mate ,Wish we could all be that fortunate

well the motor was out of it and the guy was going to take it to the tip so I got it ! Iam going to fit turbo subaru to it .

if u are unsure of the year go to this site it should help http://crittersworld.tripod.com/history.html or check the vin number

Snot a 68, pre 67

Have a look at the third digit in the number on the tunnel under the back seat, in most pre 67 Beetles this tells you what year it is IE 376 278 576, means it is a 66.
