Can anybody help??
I'm looking for a golf soft top 93/94 in good condition could anyone tell me it's good and bad points and what to beware of when buying and how much i should be paying??
I'm in brisbane so if anybody knows any other websites or places to go in QLD let me know thanks

the 93/94 cabrio does have a glass rear window, it usually also has an electric top although there are some manual ones out there

this model was never fitted with power steering at the factory but some australian dealers did fit power steering at time of sale. it is worth looking for one with steering because it is easier to drive and park, and easier to re-sell.

there is nothing in particular as a weakness in this model, just make sure the soft top is working properly and there are no leaks

prices will vary depending on age, mileage and condition but look to pay $10 - 13k for a good one, more for a low mileage model with power steering and air

when looking at the car watch out for rust in the bottom of the a-pillers as they rust out real bad and cause the front of the doors to drop where the hinges break away.

the water drainage hole gets blocked up real easy and casue's the water to sit inside doing its damage.

the other place you have to watch out for is the flitch(when you open the bonnet its the inner edge at the back that holds the windscreen wipers) and tops of the inner wings as these are also water traps.

check around the boot for water leaks as round the rear lights and where the hood meets the apron they can leak badly.

the engines are all very good,don't panic to much if there is a slight tick to the tappets as they do tend to have a slight tick anyways and is nothing to worry about.

the most important thing to look at is the hood. make sure it opens and close's easy and it seals nicely as an ill fitting one means lots of money to sort as it is bent or the car has been in a smash and is twisted etc

I had a '93 a few years back. As with most Golfs, overheating was a problem. Most liikely from the thermoswitch. I bought the car with only 40k on it and drove it for 3 years adding another 35k on top so it was fairly new although the top never sealed properly against the windows so it liked a bit in heavy rain. ALL factory Golf cabrios had glass rear windows.

Are you looking for a MK1 or a MK3 Cabriolet ? I would get the later Mk3 cabriolet since there are more of them around and most parts are interchangeable with the normal 2.0l Golfs . The 1993 is based on the Mk1 floorpan and from memory they only imported about 500 or so ?
