sorry you carnt do it as easy as a Beetle beam. dont know anyone who has done this except a mate in UK is hotting a Type 3 Ghia and he has cut the floor front bulk head off the Type 3 pan and has fitted a Beetle bulkhead so he can narrow and lower the beam to suit the car.

Its a lot of work.

NO! Different set up! It shouldnt rub with 135's on it!, and with the right wheels!

stockie chromes with big whitwalls???

Unity-28 - January 5th, 2004 at 10:55 AM

What do you mean "big w/walls"? Do you mean the wide Factory type w/walls, or w/wall inserts, cause if you put inserts, you can put them on 135's, and on a 4.5 inch stock cromed wheel, they will be fine.

BenettonVW - January 5th, 2004 at 06:28 PM

How can you have a disussion like this without inviting me? :P

Dom, if you wanna slam it, I would recommend keeping the wide 5 Type 3 rims, and running 135's. I have made the mistake of changing the rims into Beetle rims, so I can run Beetle caps, but the Beetle rims has a different offset to Type 3 rims, pushing them outward towards the guard, making them easier to rub.. bad vibes. 34 point turns everywhere.. :D

135's probably won't pass a RWC as they are thinner than factory size. Put em on later.

The whitewalls are inserts, but there is more than just one type of whitewalls.. Mine are wide, but not the widest I think. Anyway, Atlas whitewalls are 1 1/2 inch I think.. maybe 1 3/4. The ones on Nellie are wider, and are available from Johns Hot Rod & Custom. I recommend using tubes when running flaps(whitewalls) as the air can seep from around the seam of where the flap is pressed against the rim.
