I believe that the first reich was the Holy Roman Empire and the second reich was the German empire

the first Reich - Germany in the period between 1870-71 including the Franco-Prussian War

The second reich - Germany in the period 1871-1919 which included WW1 until its fall in the treaty of versailles

The third reich - Germany under nazi dictatorship (Hitler) 1933-1945

The Nazis modelled themselves on the Romans, but not sure whether they thought of the Romans as the 1st or 2nd reich.
