engine air scoops????

i was wondering where can u get those plastic air scoops for kombi's and how much they cost prefrably in newcastle area

why do you need the scoops. i have the stock scoops - as part of the car body and i dont have a problem with heating. are you overheating?

nah ive just heard it improves engine performance and just keeps it that little bit cooler

would the benefits of "scooping" more air into the engine bay be outweighed by the extra drag of hanging a big piece of plastic off each side of your bus?

also the build up of extra air in the engine bay is still being expelled through the cooler at the same rate and temp. i am skeptical of their usefulness.

I haven't fitted mine yet, but will keep a cloes eye on oil and head temps when I do, so I will know then if it improves or hinders cooling. (generally people say they help)
My reason for fitting is not for any gain in cooling, but to keep the weather out when parked :thumb

Dont forget your driving a BRICK through the air so i dont think the extra drag will come into it.

But if it helps cooling the engine then its a plus.

If memory serves, year for year up to the '70s, the Kombi has always had a lower drag coefficient than the Beetle. Colin Chapman once replied to someone who said that aerodynamics was "..simple, what looks right is right..." that "It all depends who's looking."

no, that lets the fan suck in heat from the exhaust & dust, the extra air from the scoops helps keep hot air out by force feeding cooler air, they seem to work best for me at 85 to 90 kmh - on an unfortunately long neccesary trip on Christmas day at 42 deg ambient, I founfd the temp going up if I went over or under those speeds on the freeway

for my 2c they are like deck lid stand offs on a Type 1
Personal opinion on looks but they will drop temps.

I would definitely run them if i was doing long trips.

My problem is no one makes then for a T2.5 or what ever mine is called

Mine look fine- white ears on a white Kombi
AND THEY WORK!! atleast 7-9 degrees lower in oil temp guage reading after they were fitted

don't rivet them on if you plan to take your kombi to the snow. They will cause your carby's to freeze if it gets cold enough.:bounce

Blue it was from last year's German Autofest in Canberra which Flat Four organised a weekend away to.

Astro, you can get clips for them which allows you to screw them onto the body of the Kombi without making any holes

Don't know the cost of the scoops as I've always had them form when I purchased the Kombi. I got replacement clips through Volksbahn at Pendle Hill (02) 9688 2933 so they may be able to tell you the price.

Yes, you rivet them on, and no, they have never caused my carbies to freeze up at the snow.

I bought mine from Alec, I think they were like $35/pair plus freight, but that was quite a while ago....
