Dazed but mostly confused....

I'm currently in the market for a daily driver beetle/rat so today I went and had a look at a 1970 beetle.

On looking at the tags under the fuel tank i was amazed to find that the although its painted baby shit brown it was originally Antarctic white same as my current ride.
The compliance plate had 4/70 and it had a vinyl covered dash.

Now the dilema, I went home and checked my compliance plate and it also said 4/70. When I originally purchased the car the rego said 1970 but on asking around was assured it was in actual fact a 1969. Built in1969 delivered 1970. Chassis No. 1102 239 223

Is this correct as mine doesn't have a vinyl dash

PS Can the vinyl dash be removed ?

Thanks in advance. Kafer 69 (hopefully)

Anything can be removed all you need is a crowbar:D

Ours is also 4/70 and the colour originally was antarctic white. It is a 'standard' model

Our dash is not covered with anything it is all steel. Maybe being a standard makes it have a different dash? Maybe yours had the dash put on later.

Does yours have the moon shaped vents behind the rear side windows? Ours does not. It is smooth there. :D

Mine has no vinyl dash and no vents. From the chassis number it's a '70 as the third digit represents the the last number of the the year of manufacture.

However mine has standard beetle seats no headrests, no lock on the glove box, no 1/10 mile indicators on speedo and no reflectors on blinkers. May all be immaterial as the chassis number indicates '70. Maybe the Aust. beetles were the poverty pack ?

Anyone ?
