Hi there everyone, it is great have the forum back.
I am looking at getting a H2O cooled 1991 Kombi, and I am curious if there are any things mechenical/body/electrical that I should look out for?
Any help on this one would be great before I go and spend the $$$.
All the best

MUST HAVE HAD THE CORRECT COOLANT ALL ITS LIFE. Otherwise the head studs corrode and *snap* dribble dribble, the heads pop off
in normal business use (couriers etc) the gearbox used to eventally die, & need expensive repair, I dont think it was a problem in private use though
Mr Cool
You talking T3 or T4
Only problem i have heard is maybe -
g'box
universals at front
My broth-in-law has one and it is a 2 L
200k and same clutch. Not a prob. he is a carpenter. Work Vehicle.
Rich has a 2.5L and it is a ripper.
To be honest - IF - i ever sold Daisy i would seriously consider one
fot 1991 it's still a T3?
If so, as VWcool says.
LOOK closely also for ANY coolant leaks, particularly around the heads and avoid these ones.
Good low mile ones would be nice.
They are a real pain at re-build time if they have not had the correct coolant and been looked after.
Other than that, I have diven both (T2 and T3) and love the T3's to drive, they are very nice. The extra power of the later motor and FI is very
nice.
I have also seen problems on the AFM if people have pressure cleaned in the engine bay. Costly to replace these!!
