KEEP YOUR GODDAMN HANDS OF OUR UGG BOOTS
Stanley - January 31st, 2004 at 09:31 AM

Sorry but I just need to vent my spleen here.....Whats the go with those goddamn Americans trademarking/copywriting the name "ugg boot" and then threatening to sue anyones arse who uses it........:cussing:cussing:cussing

HotRodMatt - January 31st, 2004 at 09:42 AM

Perfectly legal in the United States of Bigotry.

It's not a generic term there like it is here so they can trademark it.

They'll have little luck in Oz because it is a generic term. The Australian company they bought never trademarked it when they started but when it became a US company they trademarked it there.

:(:(:(:( Those americans are always stealing aussie ideas (i.e refridgerators, hills hoists, fosters{maybe thats not so good}) :(:(:( and now ugg boots!!

Kai.A. - January 31st, 2004 at 12:17 PM

apparently the macquarie (sp?) dictioary has listed 'ugg' since the early 80's or somethin, this american company made it a trademark in the early 90's and then tried to sue macquarie dictionary!!!! the dictionary changed the definition to suit the americans i beleive....
i just heard a report on the news a few days ago, i don't know much about the subject, but it seems pretty damn wrong to me!
bloody americans (gotta love sweeping generalisations ;) )

We can just call them Uggh

Also we should leak something to the US papers that Ugg means Ugly.
That will fix em

BugSpray - January 31st, 2004 at 10:32 PM

It suprises me that the footwear company Deckers, operating under the logo Ugg Holdings Inc, can copyright a design that has been used for thousands of years.
It seems to me that Deckers are trying to convince the world that they invented it.
Also the Pontiac GTO is around $20,000 AU cheaper in the US than it is here.

jnr356 - January 31st, 2004 at 11:26 PM

we can always fix 'em up with all them aussie vw accecessories!

70AutoStik - February 1st, 2004 at 10:46 PM

Hang - on, has anyone actually worn Ugg boots (outside of tassie, of course,) in the last quartercentury?

P.S. They can keep the Fosters, I thought it was a practical joke we pulled on them anyway - That Hoges was always a funny guy!

Da Wiz - February 2nd, 2004 at 12:06 PM

There are basically two forms of footwear i wear ... the double pluggers ... suitable for any hot weather environment ...

and my uggies ... I have two sets ... long pair ... and the shorter pair ... I have worn the longer pair a few times to clubs and pubs ... look good underneath the jeans ... good talking point for the ladies ;)

... I spose it helps being a uni student and not having a 9-5 job ;)

lulu94 - February 2nd, 2004 at 01:03 PM

lulu94 - February 2nd, 2004 at 01:04 PM

havent you seen what girls have been doing with ugg boots lately, covering them in shaggy fur and making them the latest fashion accessory

TheGermanFolks - February 2nd, 2004 at 04:26 PM

uggs are gross, plain and simple, I dont give a shit what kind of fashion statement they make.
and thanks for the United states of bigotry comment, real mature.

Andy42 - February 2nd, 2004 at 04:55 PM

Perhaps it is not moral to some to copywrite the name ugg but if it is legal then I guess they will get it, but all you have to do when buying some ugg boots is to buy 100% owned and made in Aus OH and you may want to check they actually used local materials as well.

Starbug - February 2nd, 2004 at 11:38 PM

Nothing like keeping the tootsies toasty in a pair of comfy uggies.

unless they are smelly uggies.

kustomkool - February 10th, 2004 at 03:43 PM

Ugg..............Just add an F to front...Fugg Boots?

Like to see them try to copyright "A pair of feet up sheeps bum boots"?

Lack of creativity I say.....

ooh and for the vegans amongst us..."A pair of feet up , non toxic environmentally friendly simulated sheep constucted from hemp fibre and recycled cardboard soles"?

:repuke
