Hello,
Whats a good car alarm to be installed into a VW Beetle (1965 edition)?
And does anyone know how much it will lower your car insurance; I'm with Shannons.
only thing i can suggest is heading to one of the car audio/stereo/electronic stores and ask them what they have.
if you want it to lopwer your insurance it needs to be one that complies with australian standards, i made that mistake with getting an imobilizer,
didnt change the insurance because it didnt turn itself on all the time after 30 sec's or something.
Good luck
Danielle
Check with your insurer as to wether an immobiliser(*) will reduce your insurance and, if so, which particular ones are acceptable.
Shannons quotes insurance based on many factors and in some cities/suburbs may require a lockup garage and immobiliser, in others none at all.
(*) Alarms are pretty much useless these days (at least in the capital cities) as no-one pays any attention to them. An immobiliser is a different
kettle of fish...
hth
get one with an immobiliser and black wiring, i think only 1 point works in a VW, 3 point immobilisers r no use coz we dont hav 3 points to
immobilise. but i may b wrong. u also will want black wiring as it makes it a little more difficult for them.
my siren is so loud it blows ur ears wen ur inside the car, u can hardly think. i sometimes put a rag over it to soften it slightly.
i think shannons hav a list of manufacturers they recommend, giv them a call...
I used one from Jaycar for around $200 and fitted it myself. It came with everything, including an immobiliser, remotes, and the ability to operate central locking (extra $) or power windows. :thumb
I know that if you get a Shannon's approved immobiliser (basically get their outsourced guys to fit it, or have them inspect a current one) you
get no reduction in insurance premium, but you do get $500 less on theft excess. At least that was what it was when I had my insurance set up through
them.
BTW Shannon's immobilisers cost $300-500 depending on car/type.
