BRM problems
mattie - February 9th, 2004 at 08:27 PM

we are having trouble with our BRMs, they are rubbing on the iside of the drum we seem to think that the bolts that we have are to long or may be the wrong offset, we got the wheels from volkspower so if anyone from there could help that would be great.

cheers mattie

Didn't have any problem with mine.
the one's from Volkspower are the Midlands Wheel Supplies ones, just like mine.
Are your's 112 or 205 pcd?
the bolts won't make any difference to how far the rim pulls in.
are you using the bolts provided with the rims?

I had Flat BRMs on my stock drums (63 beetle) with the supplied lugs and had no problems. My mate bought a set of MWS BRMs and I used a couple of my lugs to trial fit them to his drums and they were too long and rubbed on the brake shoes or something inside.

This is a potential problem, either put some dye on the end of the lug, mount the wheel and spin it (don't drive just yet) - take the lug out and check if the dye has been scratched. Alternately take the drum off and see if there are any rubbing marks anywhere.

If you have theearlier thinner typr drums iti ispossible that the bolts may be fractionally too long and are fouling on your brake shoes. Bolt them up and spin the wheel, slowly, off the floor and if you hear a noise then the bolts are probably too long. Let me know how you go and I will see if I have any shorter bolts here for you.
Cheers
