For those interested the C-M ran a cool pic of the splitties and a small article, unfortunately leading with the traffic you guys caused! But still
good to get on page 2!

VW nostalgia makes other drivers fume
By: Louise Crossen
MOTORISTS heading to the Sunshine Coast may have found themselves stuck in slow traffic yet again yesterday -- but for once it wasn't roadworks
causing the delays.
A 100-strong convoy of vintage Volkswagen cars and Kombis snaked its way from Boondall to the Ettamogah Pub where Queensland's VW enthusiasts got
the chance to show off their pride and joy at a ``show, shine and swap meet''.
Unfortunately most of these hot rods don't get beyond 80km/h, and self- described ``VW nut'' Cameron McGrath said the convoy was
``every truckie's nightmare''.
``We had 20 cars lined up behind us -- I think some of the other drivers would have been pulling their hair out,'' Mr McGrath said.
Trophies were awarded for everything from best interior to best modification.
One Kombi had been converted into a four-wheel-drive, an ageing Bug was souped-up with a new V8 and others had outlandish murals and customised
interiors.
Mr McGrath said the VW was part of the Australian landscape ``the quintessential surfers' car'' which you could put your surfboard in
-- or even live in. He is the proud owner of a 41-year-old Kombi he has spent more than $30,000 restoring.
``It goes at about 70km/h up the highway, it rattles, leaks oil and it doesn't have airconditioning -- but it's unique,'' he
said.
``I'm totally hooked -- it's an addiction.''

thats it. if youre gonna do it , then do it in style. i think that for nambucca we should all cruise in a convoy at a speed like 80 or evn 70.
certainly would make for a hell of a 'vw snake' as they put it.
then all park at my house in sawtell for a BBQ then take opver the town (that'll teach them bloody VL commodore drivers)
cheers

the whole funy part about the story is that there was not one pissed off driver everyone waved and smiled and we got the cars in off the freeway in
record time how the media over exagerate things to make themselves look good Oh and as for the 100 strong try 200+. Now there tools.

pretty cool article... but just a question
why is it that no other type of car nostalgia makes drivers fume?
the media is only tetchy at vw's because our cars are probably older than alot of the journalists... and thats just not right dammit! were old,
were cute, we dont like water and were taking over the world!

I don't agree with the article saying that the cruise made other drivers unhappy. I was the first car behind the buggies, so those other drivers
that I saw passing us would have had to have passed all the other vehicles before they got to me - and all I saw on the faces of the non-VW people was
big smiles. Many of them even waved and attempted to have a conversation between vehicles! If this is an unhappy driver - bring on road rage! :P
