What is it with Beetles??????
surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 06:57 PM

What is it with bloody Beetles?? Every VW website you find is full of beetles.....every VW magazine you find is full of Beetles....every model shop only stocks VW beetles!!!!!!!

Isn't it obvious that they are nowhere near as cool as Kombis!! It's time us Kombi owners make a stand!!!!

Maybe we should have our own forum so when you see a topic like "my 58" you don't race there all excited to find they are only talking about a bloody beetle!!

Bigger is better in my book - so this proves kombis are better!

Why don't bloody beetle drivers wave back?

Am I alone on this????

HE HE HE HE HE HE HE

baybuscamperkid - February 11th, 2004 at 07:38 PM

nope, ur not the only one. there is nowhere near enough kombi content out there, not to mention peoples views on kombis! have you noticed just about anybody can drive a beetle, some people even find it highly fashionable, but you have to be a pot smoking hippy to drive a kombi!

GL1972 - February 11th, 2004 at 07:41 PM

surfkombi,
I have been building a 72 super for the last 18 months but lately I've been wondering how I'm going to fit my 6.0' kneeboard in the back.

Ocassionaly I catch myself looking wistfully at '68 to '70 kombis. Maybe the 2110 will push one nicely to the beach at 6:00am......hmmmmmm.
:jesus

vw54 - February 11th, 2004 at 07:46 PM

Sorry 22 million carnt be wrong...

robnjo - February 11th, 2004 at 07:58 PM

we are the base of that bloody great pyramid:cool: (o\i/o)

duncombemu - February 11th, 2004 at 08:09 PM

This is all silly. Why make it 'us and them'. We all have a passion for VW's, no matter if they're Type 1,2,3,4, what ever engine, air, water, N/A, turbo, F/I, what ever. Anyway, I always wave to anyone with a VW, it doesn't matter. Get a grip guys. We all love our VW's, both big and small.

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 08:27 PM

I am lucky too have both Kombi and beetle
And like you've probably heard before size doesn't matter. :P

silver - February 11th, 2004 at 08:39 PM

Well I've got one of each! to me it is the best way! and after all they are all VeeDubs

surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 08:39 PM

I must admit - ever since I have owned the Kombi - I have started looking more interestingly towards beetles. I have found they are useful - you can wreck them and use some of the parts on the Kombi!!!!!!!!!

I am looking forward to getting a copy of the new aussie VW magazine to see how much kombi content there is - all of the UK mags I have seen have one ot two pages at the back dedicated to kombis.

I don't really want to segregate VW owners into 'us' and 'them' - I just wish there was as much Kombi material in the world as there is beetle stuff.

PS When is a movie studio going to make 'Herby the Love Bus'??

Go Bongo Vans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Midlife crisis - February 11th, 2004 at 08:43 PM

If you think the kombi is hard done by, try having a type 3. We wave to Kombi's and beetles, but only the diehard Veedubbers who recognize a type 3 wave back.
And there a even less Type 3's than Kombi's in magazines.

surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 08:50 PM

I am definately going to the VW jamboree in Melbourne on March 28 - I hope to meet some Beetle Drivers and find out why they love there cars!!!!

I reckon Type 3's are very cool! One lives around the corner from me - buts it's owner won't wave!!

I have also found that owners of 'wedge' (82 onwards) kombis don't wave either!!!!!

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 08:59 PM

Maybe they can tell you don't like them so they don't wave. Maybe you give them the evil eye :o

robnjo - February 11th, 2004 at 09:01 PM

sorry duncombemu,I ment to put "LOL" at the end of my post..............................................

surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 09:03 PM

I don't dislike beetles or their owners at all!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just very jealous that they get all the attention!!!!

PS I never have been a pot smoking hippy - but ever since buying the bus I have though about growing a beard!!!! What's happening to me!

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 09:07 PM

Jion a VW club and you will meet lots of kombi owners and I am sure the beetle will wave if you do.:kiss

byronbus - February 11th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

I always wave at my kombi when i drive past in my beetle :D

Cruzin in a Golf - February 11th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

I couldnt agree more SurfKombi, Beetles are everywhere, but lets think about it, it was all those bastards out there that bought em all, what you should be complaining about is that those same bastards should have bought a Kombi not a Beetle regardless of whether they need 4 seats or 8. Golfs are even more marginalised than the Kombi or Type 3. But its our own fault for not buying more of em and spending our hard earned on em to make em look sick like countless bug owners do. I not saying other owners dont tho cos we do, so its sucks when you have a rareish car.

surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

I plan to join a VW club very soon! I have looked at the Vic Clubs site but a fair bit of it seems to be down at the moment.

Im not even sure if there is only one club in VIC - but someone will let me know which is best!

byronbus - February 11th, 2004 at 09:15 PM

I drove halfway around the world today in a kombi to look at a beetle, you'll be glad to know it was a rusted wreck

surfkombi - February 11th, 2004 at 09:17 PM

Why spend your money on a beetle when you could buy another Kombi!!!!

byronbus - February 11th, 2004 at 09:18 PM

I have another...

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 09:18 PM

But I wasn't happy :cry

byronbus - February 11th, 2004 at 09:22 PM

No, either was i really, im really keen on that 60 beetle in sydney...you guys want the oval?

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 09:30 PM

Do you really have to ask. Rob would die to get that beetle.

duncombemu - February 11th, 2004 at 09:36 PM

I hope you're joking BYRONBUS, about finding a 'rusted wreck of a Beetle' after driving around. If you weren't, then think about what you just said to a lot of Beetle owners. They would find that a bit of an insult.
Why can't we see the VW sign on a car and be happy that the VW, what ever type, still lives on. The less 'rusted Beetle wrecks' about, the more the VW name will live on, hopefully forever.

Mark:thumb:D

DoNkEy - February 11th, 2004 at 09:49 PM

Its all supply and demand..more beetles more beetle parts and info. U also gotta remember that when people think VW's they instantly think of a beetle, its what makes vw's vw's. After a little more thinking they do although think of tree hugin hippies in kombi's! and herbie (a beetle)
:P
But i do love kombis and i hope to get one soon..beetles have class but kombis have class and SPACE!

First thing i hope to do when i get a kombi is drive past a hippie protest and shout out my window "bloody hippies!"... All jokes ofcourse :D

Babybug - February 11th, 2004 at 10:03 PM

Hey if you get a Kombi you can come on the nimbin convoy and yell all you want.....:) :sandrine

DoNkEy - February 11th, 2004 at 11:01 PM

lmao!:D

Oasis - February 11th, 2004 at 11:09 PM

I'm gonna do a beetle to kombi conversion. Keep the pan and add a couple of panels. What do you reckon? Anyone done this? :D:o

Starbug - February 11th, 2004 at 11:57 PM

surfinkombi... ive found the opposite... i wave to EVERY old skool vw i see (beetles, kombis, bajas, buggies, type 3's, golfs, ghias)
and ive found the majority of kombis i wave to dont wave back.
tho every type 3 i have waved to has waved back:)
