looks cools but do they actually do any good ?

helbus - February 15th, 2004 at 04:43 PM

Our beetle seemed to do ok in the heat yesterday when we were out driving, and certainly was not on the sideof the road like the dozens of cars we seen.

Magna's and Falcons (EA-EF) seemed to be the most prolific on the day, with an Escort, a Corona and a Cressida thrown in. They were a bit older, so maybe the radiators were past their use by date.

Sad to see more of the modern cars fizzed out though! Throw away cars now?

baybuscamperkid - February 15th, 2004 at 07:01 PM

well, yesterday i played tennis at 10:30 (stupid move) then hid under the house (where it is about 20deg) and did whatever work possible on the parts of my bus that were under there. today, STUPIDLY thought it wouldnt be too hot, so spent the day walking around, watching music and moshing at croyden festival. suffered severe heat exhaustion, sunburn (minor, i was wearing screen), pulled earring (very painful, as it was just about healed until that happened), foot in the eye... for anyone not living in Croyden, while the city reached a max of 31deg, in our backyard it was still 35deg at 5pm, so u can imagine what it was like from 10:30 thru to 4:30 whilest i was at the festival! bad mistake that i do not plan on repeating any time soon.

I suprised the missus on Saturday by kidnapping her and taking a w/end away to Mount Bulla, you know what they say about mountain men, like nuthin better than mountin women, boom, boom.
It was also about 10-15 deg cooler up there.

68AutoBug - February 15th, 2004 at 09:04 PM

Well its just been too Hot to go outside in
Northern inland NSW... 39-41C every day the past few weeks... a nice 26 inside the house.... even the dogs are affected by the heat... they nearly died last wednesday when We went to Newcastle whre it was 39 on the beach and 50+ in the sun, and 45 in the shade..... terrible day.... Went to the swap meet at Clarendon near Windsor this morning, 5am start, 260kms each way... probably 35C but as most things were out in the Sun, a very sweaty morning... very few VW parts.. but it wasn't really hot down there compared to what We felt when the car door was opened in Singleton-Muswellbrook & Scone.. Over 40C....
I just have to get an Air Con for My beetle... or drive it when its under 28C...

physcho - February 15th, 2004 at 09:10 PM

i ignored it really.

found it to be a decent heat in the beetle with all the windows down, when moving anyway. when stopped the sweat started running down my face, but one i got goin again it worked like my personal swamp cooler :)

oh and beer, lots of beer. (combined with non alcoholic drinks to actually beat the dehydration)

Menangler - February 15th, 2004 at 09:12 PM

Nathan,
you need to get one for the other side, then it will look like Luke Skywalker's pod racer with a roof!:D

68AutoBug - February 15th, 2004 at 09:28 PM

Do You put swamp water in a swamp cooler???? Do You put any water at all in a swamp cooler...??
I have an Air Conditioner fan assy to go under My Beetles dash.... Will it work like a swamp cooler with the air con part not connected????

SteveMk2 - February 15th, 2004 at 10:32 PM

Later model stuff may not be as lauded as Aircooled stuff here, but Beths Vento has A/C.... Yeah, baby..... GTI stays in the garage...

Oh, and Canberra does get hot. It has been over thirty for the last 6-8 days, and as high as 37. Icky sticky heat....

ibmoknegawsklov - February 16th, 2004 at 08:10 AM

lol, just use lots of sun block and drive the country buggy at speed with the winscreen folded down..........coooool.......
well 'cept for the bugs :D

lobus - February 16th, 2004 at 12:11 PM

Thought I would take advantage of all that sticky bitumen. This time it didn't stick to me feet ....WOO HOOO.

KruizinKombi - February 16th, 2004 at 01:45 PM

Saturday I drove to Rye in my g/f's airconditioner on wheels ('00 Hyundai Excel :o) :thumb:thumb:thumb (and I drove right past your place, Bugboy. Didn't stop in, figured you'd be out cruising....)

Sunday I went home and spent the afternoon brushcutting :jesus

GL1972 - February 16th, 2004 at 08:49 PM

I got a special cooling accessory for the roof of my car...it's called a kneeboard.

"Take two surfs a day and then relax" my doctor says.
