hi all
there has been expressions of interest in carbon fibre running boards.
i am looking into making some up with one of my mates.
however at this stage as i don't have a beetle we cannot make moulds for them and get an idea on price,
i am wondering if anyone out there is wrecking a beetle or has some old ones lying around we could use
this would be appreciated
cheers, t3k
Make sure you get a good set of Old German boards to copy off
the BRazilain ones are shit
I'd be interested depending on the price...
A set of American ones I think were $224 USD which is way too much for me at the moment.
Carbon Joe in the US is making a set a silver colour which looks interesting. Is that possible with you guys??
I want some too,
hey Bill, bring me a shrubbery.....................
Luke Pell at vwparts.com.au is looking to make some this year too.
they would be just the basic carbon fibre running boards
dave-thanks for the advice. i haven't been hearing many good things about this brazilian brand.
as for price i'll know once i get my hands on some stock ones. does anyone have any?
at this point in time i can't see them being as expensive as the american ones. i'm tryin to get some done so people who want them
don't have to fork out heaps for them

Any news on the carbon bits?
I gave Aaron a set of german running boards on Monday so he should be laying carbon fibre as we speak..................
regards
Jak
as stated by jak i have now in possession running boards. the carbon is not being layed yet but should be soon if all goes to plan. shouldn't be
too long.
if all goes to plan a set will be displayed on jak's beetle at the nationals for all those interested
how much are they gonna cost?
Good german ones are already about 130 a piece...
if they work out a reasonable price I'll put my hand up for a set.
What other panels are available in CF for realistic prices?
secoh, at this point it is not what we have it is what you want. if there is something you want done, just ask and we will suss it out and see if we
can do it. other people have shown interest in things such as small front spoilers, but if there is something you want, just ask.
in terms of cost we are trying to keep them as low as possible. thanks to jak a lot of money has been saved allready as with his running boards we
found a cheaper quicker way of doing them.
holes in the end where they bolt to the gaurds will not be drilled. they are somethuing you will have to do yourself when you get them
any questions just ask and i'll answer them
please remeber this is not as much of a profit making venture as most may think it will be. yes a profit will be made on them but i am trying to also
keep that to minimum so all who want them can get them at realistic prices

Are you going to make these so they can accomodate new rubber mats and trim?
What sad times they are ,when Knight's can type "Ni" to people at will!
Oooo! he said it... Ooo I said it.... Oooo! he said it....Ooo I said it again...Ooo I said it again...

I'll have apair please just let me know how much?
Cut down the carbon fibre tree with....
... a herring!
excuse the ignorance but is carbon fibre heaps more expensive than fbre glass?
what may interest me is the "good old tilt front " clip - bonnet / front guards - ONE Piece. ie fibre glass front end(CF - style)
I guess once I see the running board price I'll get the idea.
A HERRING???
In my many years experience as a fitter of custom stilletto heels to jellyfish, I have proved beyong all reasonable doubt that mackeral cuts better than herring, leaves a smoother surface and the residue is easily cleaned up with toe jam. The only down side is that reliable suppliers of jam are becoming scarce due to Bin Laden having cornered the market.
glen- yes it is more expensive, but think about it..i'm not a retail shop so the profit margin for me is a whole lot less then for them
silver- we could if you wanted i suppose, but do you really want to?? if so let me know why as i'm interested. i thought people wanted the carbon
look.
bigbruvabob- i'll post prices as soon as i can
also- do you have a favourite logo, sticker or design?? if so it would be possible to put this on the running board and coat it with clear carbon so
you can still get the carbon look and add a bit of personalisation to them.
jak- did you want a v-force one put on them?
we are no longer the dubbers who say "ni" we are now the dubbers who say "ekka ekka ekka ekka ooooooooopppp"
olay olay biscuit barrel...
I always thought toe jam was a weapon of mass destruction.
On a serious note, I don't mind the idea of something written on them (with clear carbon or something else). I like an old volkswagen logo in
that running writing script that was used on old busses I think. That would look good on the side rather than the top. I'll try and find a pic,
or if anyone has one.
I have to push the pram along...
oasis- did you mean on the side of the running board?? i know the one you are talking about but don't have a pic anywhere.
How did you go Aaron Are they easy as you thought.
Will the carbon fibre pattern be exposed on the face of the board ?? Are you going to lay it up in the diagonal direction ?? or ??
dave- not finished yet, carbon should be laid this week. the running board will show the carbon pattern, most likely and hopefully not diagonal but vert and hortizontal.

yeah the side is small but should be possible.
anyone got any pics of the volksy logo oasis is talking about?
If the price ends up too exy, have you considered a 'budget version' - say, 3 or 4 layers of fibreglass and only the top layer carbon fibre
?
That way you could have the look of carbon fibre, while only actually using a quarter as much carbon fibre mat.
Just an idea.
doug- we have already thought of that and all will have a layer or two of fibreglass underneath if the first set comes out and is too flimsy. i have spoken to jak about this and with the lenght of them, they may be a bit flimsy by themselves. the fibreglass won't b seen unless you look under tho. we wanted to make these as cheap as possible without sacrifuicing quality.
